Hunterdon Central High School dismisses students early after 'serious spike' in COVID

Hunterdon Central Regional High School will be losing three teachers and one administrator under the terms of the 2023-24 budget.

RARITAN TWP. – A "serious spike" in COVID cases among students and cafeteria workers prompted Hunterdon Central Regional High School to dismiss students at noon on Monday.

The early dismissal, announced on the school's website, came after "multiple" positive cases were reported among the school's cafeteria workers, causing concerns about the ability to serve lunch.

In addition, at least 30 student cases were reported Monday morning, many of which were linked to a social gathering, the school district said.

All after-school activities were cancelled.

"We will continue to keep everyone updated, and hope to be back to our normal schedule as soon as possible," Superintendent Jeff Moore posted.

But later Monday the district announced that Tuesday will be an all-remote day at the school.

"We are hopeful that we will be able to complete contact tracing on Tuesday and be back to an in-person schedule for the remainder of the week," the district posted.

Monday evening's school board meeting will be held as scheduled.
