HS Roundup: Naples, Bishop Verot, Mariner, Fort Myers, Immokalee among winners

High school results for games played Tuesday and Wednesday, Feb. 23 and 24.

Softball

Naples 16, Barron Collier 2: The Eagles opened their season with a statement win over the rival Cougars under new head coach Scott Angelico. UCF commit Macy Miles led the way for Naples with a stellar pitching performance while adding four RBI. Freshman Makenzie Leiti had three RBI and freshman Joslyn Baker added three hits and pair of runs batted in.

Fort Myers 15, Ida Baker 4: Clemson commit Julia Knowler drove in five runs, and Tegan Webb added three RBI in the Greenies win over the Bulldogs. Kylee Vagle got the win in the circle for Fort Myers Tuesday.

"I liked our approach at the plate," said first-year coach Dan Mills. "We were patient, and it led to a lot of good at-bats."

Mariner 19, Estero 5: Katie Campbell had three hits and five RBI to lead the Tritons over the Wildcats. Cheyenne Waddell pitched four innings and Crimson Lawrence pitched two innings in the win.

Immokalee 10, Cypress Lake 7: Justine Robbins hit a grand slam in the Panthers' loss to Immokalee, while Sarah Yamrick had two hits and two RBI.

Lely 12, South Fort Myers 2

Baseball

Bishop Verot 6, North Port 0: Josiah Velazquez struck out 13 batters in six innings to lead the Vikings over the Bobcats. Maddix Simpson had three hits, while Kevin RisCassi and Matt Turner went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Mariner 13, Estero 0: Taylor Hawkins picked up the win on the mound for the Tritons against the Wildcats. Matt Morales had three hits, while Mason Blackburn hit a grand slam in the fifth inning.

Girls Lacrosse

Barron Collier 16, Palmetto Ridge 1: The Cougars scored 16 goals to honor the late Cali Walters in their win over the Bears. Mollie Powell had three goals, while Nicole Kuhl and Annabelle Cialone each added two.

St. Thomas Aquinas 22, CSN 5: Emma Smith had three goals and 12 grounds balls in the Seahawks loss to the defending 2A state champions. Ruby Smith and Kelsey Gable netted one goal as well for CSN.

Boys Lacrosse

Estero 12, Lely 7: The Wildcats were led by Ryan Jackson with four goals as they defeated the Trojans. Teammates Eli Dunford and Aidan McArthur both added three as well. In the loss for Lely, Khai Baldwin had two goals and two assists, while Zach Sims had 16 saves in net.

Barron Collier 18, Palmetto Ridge 1: Colin Laughrey led the Cougars with six goals in the win over the Bears. In net for Barron Collier was Collin Quinsey, who finished with nine saves.
