New hotel on Tyndall Parkway is coming to Callaway as city development continues
CALLAWAY —Visitors will soon have a new option to lodge in Callaway.
City commissioners approved the development order to bring a Candlewood Suites hotel on Tyndall Parkway. The new hotel will sit on a four-acre lot at 131 N. Tyndall Parkway between the Pep Boys and the Innovations Federal Credit Union.
"We've been working on this project for almost a year, and it's just more development that we're seeing here in the city of Callaway," City Manager Ed Cook said. "We're super excited as we continue moving forward with city developments as we prepare for the redevelopment of Tyndall Air Force Base."

Plans call for the three-story hotel to feature 91 rooms, each room occupied by a kitchenette. Hotel amenities will include a laundry room, a fitness center, a meeting room and a pool with outdoor patio space.
The project is expected to be completed within the next two years.
As more businesses and restaurants continue developing along Tyndall Parkway, Cook said he thinks the hotel's location is ideal for new visitors exploring the area.
"Even though Callaway is not a tourist destination, we have a lot of people that stay here and the city has a lot to offer as far as desirable parks and amenities," he said. "And we hope to continue fulfilling the community's needs as we bring more developments to the city."
JV Investments LLC will partner with Panhandle Engineering, which will handle construction. Cook noted that developers will complete environmental permits in October and could break ground as early as January.
The hotel would significantly impact the city's growth, Cook said. He explained that while a handful of hotels sit along Tyndall Parkway, most remain relatively full throughout the year.
"There has been a need for additional lodging to accommodate visitors coming through and staying here," he said. "We want to be able to continue to offer that, and it will, of course, be a huge benefit for our community."
