Trump says some white South Africans are oppressed, could be resettled in the US. They say no thanks
Groups representing some of South Africa's white minority responded Saturday to a plan by President Donald Trump to offer them refugee status and resettlement in the United States by saying: thanks, but no thanks. The plan was detailed in an executive order Trump signed Friday that stopped all aid and financial assistance to South Africa as punishment for what the Trump administration said were “rights violations” by the government against some of its white citizens. The Trump administration accused the South African government of allowing violent attacks on white Afrikaner farmers and introducing a land expropriation law that enables it to “seize ethnic minority Afrikaners' agricultural property without compensation.”

Aga Khan's funeral service held in Portugal ahead of private burial ceremony in Egypt
The funeral of Aga Khan IV, the 49th hereditary imam of the Shiite Ismaili Muslims, has taken place in Lisbon. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Spain's King Emeritus Juan Carlos were among the dignitaries who attended Saturday's private ceremony for His Highness Prince Karim Al-Hussaini at the Ismaili community center. Portugal's President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa and the mayor of Lisbon were also among the mourners.

Chemical weapons agency chief says Damascus meetings first step towards improved ties
The head of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons said on Saturday meetings he had with Syria's new leaders in Damascus were a first step towards ending years of strained relations on chemical arms under Bashar al-Assad. "This visit lays the ground for working together towards closing the Syrian chemical weapons file for good and fostering long-term compliance, regional stability, and contributing to peace and international security," Director General Fernando Arias said in a written statement. He met Syria's interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa and Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shibani during his visit to Damascus.
