Holy Cross women's basketball defeats Dartmouth, 77-49, for 1st win of season
WORCESTER — Senior guard Avery LaBarbera poured in 23 points, becoming the 35th player in program history to score 1,000 points while sparking the Holy Cross women's basketball team to its first win of the season, 77-49, over Dartmouth on Tuesday night at the Hart Center.
Senior forward Oluchi Ezemma added 16 points and five rebounds for the Crusaders (1-2). Sophomore guard Bronagh Power-Cassidy (4 rebounds, 4 assists) and senior forward Madison Demski (7 boards) each netted 10 points, with sophomore forward Janelle Allen (4-of-6 shooting) one point from five HC players in double figures.
Freshman forward Grace Miekelski was the only scorer in double figures for the Big Green (0-3) with a career-high 14 points while connecting on 6 of 9 from the field.
Otherwise, HC shut down Dartmouth from the floor, allowing only 31.1 percent (19 of 61). The Crusaders outrebounded the Ivy League squad, 50-29, and scored 21 points off 19 Big Green turnovers.
The Crusaders host UMass at 6 p.m. Friday at the Hart Center, the second of three straight home games. HC entertains Connecticut College at 6 p.m. Monday before the Thanksgiving break.
