Hollyoaks star Kieron Richardson is hoping that Brendan Brady's appearance in a Hollyoaks Favourites episode will lead to the character properly returning.

Thursday's Hollyoaks Favourites first-look instalment featured an introduction by Richardson for a pivotal moment in Brendan's character arc, where he revealed the abuse he endured from his father Seamus.

Viewers were expressing hopes that Emmett J. Scanlan could eventually return to the Channel 4 soap when the episode aired – and now Richardson has joined in calls for Brendan and Ste to reunite.

"It would be interesting to see, because it doesn't really happen that often — when an iconic soap couple, that have been separated for years, reunite," he said. "I think if it were to happen, it would be quite a big deal.

"Something really exciting, and something that I'd obviously be up for doing, but I'm sure Emmett is very busy, so we just have to hope one day he stops getting all of these incredible roles and comes back to me."

Richardson added that he "loved working with Emmett", and still keeps in touch with him seven years after Scanlan left Hollyoaks for Hollywood success.

"I loved learning a craft from a different angle," Richardson recalled. "He was so brave in his choices, and maybe I wasn't as brave an actor. He helped me push myself out of my comfort zone and do things that I wouldn't necessarily choose to do myself.

"Yes we are still in contact… I speak on the phone to him every now and then – not all of the time, he's obviously very busy, and I'm busy with the family life. I saw him at an awards recently, and we had a little drink together and a catch up. We were reminiscing about the good old days."

Hollyoaks airs Mondays and Tuesdays at 6.30pm on Channel 4, with first-look episodes airing on E4 at 7pm. Wednesdays through Fridays on E4 will feature classic episodes called Hollyoaks Favourites to compensate for the soap suspending filming.
