We've been delving into the stories of some real-life soap couples recently and this week it's the turn of Hollyoaks stars Anna Passey and Kyle Pryor.

The former on-screen enemies confirmed that they're an item late last year, but have kept their relationship pretty low-key for most of their time together. Fortunately, we're on hand with a quick guide to their history, in case the details have passed you by.

Anna has played fan favourite Sienna Blake on Hollyoaks since 2012. She met Kyle for the first time in 2018, when he joined the show's cast in the role of Laurie Shelby.

Prior to landing his Hollyoaks role, British-born Kyle was best known for playing Nate Cooper on Aussie soap Home and Away between 2013 and 2017.

Kyle's Hollyoaks character was brought in specifically for a big storyline with Sienna and Sinead, exploring the issues of sexual harassment and rape within a marriage.

In a storyline inspired by the Me Too movement, Laurie abused his position as deputy head at Hollyoaks High by harassing Sienna, who was a teaching assistant at the school.

Speaking to Digital Spy about the storyline in January 2019, Anna explained: "Kyle is such a nice guy. I think he's probably the nicest man I've ever met! When I met him I thought, 'How is he going to do this storyline? He's so nice!' But then you get on set with him and he can be really frightening.

"He's brought a really dark undertone to this character and I'm really excited to watch that unfold. He's playing this really complicated character who's so charming, serious and handsome, but he has this dark, manipulative side to him as well."

Getting together

Anna and Kyle went public with their romance in October 2019. By this point, Kyle had left the cast of Hollyoaks as the issue-based storyline involving Laurie, Sienna and Sinead had come to an end.

In reality, Anna and Kyle had actually got together several months earlier, but kept the news quiet to avoid drawing attention to their relationship.

Anna recently told New magazine: "He lived in the basement flat of my building with Jude Monk McGowan, who played Liam Donovan, then he moved upstairs about a year ago."

Asked whether she fancied Kyle as soon as he joined, Anna replied: "No. Obviously he's very pretty, but we were both so engrossed with work it wasn't until he ended up moving in downstairs that we started spending more time together.

"We became really good friends first and it went from there. It's a bit of a strange one because I look at him now and think, 'How were we not instantly in love when we saw each other?'"

Anna and Kyle were together for nearly a year before announcing their relationship.

On why they kept it quiet, Anna added: "We just don't feel the need to put it out there. It's nice to keep something for yourselves. But we're not trying to keep it private to build the mystery."

Going into business together

Anna and Kyle may not be Hollyoaks co-stars anymore, but that doesn't mean they can't still work together.

At the end of last month, Anna announced that she and Kyle had set up their own candle company Kip Candle Co. – based in Liverpool, where Hollyoaks is filmed.

Anna told her followers: "In wintertime last year, @kyleipryor & I started making our own candles, that grew and now we have our own candle company Kip Candle Co. Got time on your hands? Go check us out."

Writing on the company's official website, the couple revealed: "Kip Candle Co. was born out of our passion for travel. Everywhere we went we would collect beautiful smelling candles and incense to bring back to relive our adventures in our home. It's amazing how quickly a scent can take you back to a moment or place.

"Every candle is hand made lovingly by us in our studio, making each one individual and of the highest quality."

With TV filming suspended across the industry, Anna and Kyle are currently self-isolating at home in Liverpool. Hollyoaks shooting has been on hold since March.

Speaking about life in the current situation, Anna recently told New magazine: "I'm so used to spending most of my time at work that I wake up every day and just want to go to work – something I didn't think I'd ever say!

"My partner and I are definitely up, showered and clothed every day, but I'm taking a hair and make-up break. I left my hair for a week without washing it, which felt so gross, but it was good for me."

Asked about the future and whether having on-screen daughter Sophie had made her broody, Anna joked: "It's not that she makes me broody, but if her parents decided they didn't fancy having her any more I'd take her off their hands!

"That's such a Sienna thing to say! If I could carbon-copy her, I would. It's the first time I've felt like that."
