HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP Norwell cross country sweeps SSL Championships

The Norwell High boys and girls cross country teams swept the South Shore League Championship Meet on Friday.

In the girls race, Norwell scored 41 points to edge out Middleboro. Abington's Selena Wood was the individual champion in 19:44. The Clippers were led by Hallie Robitaille (second), Monica Smith (fifth) and Meredith Cassidy (seventh).

East Bridgewater's Phoebe Katlius (third), Cohasset's Maggie Brinzey (fourth) had top-five finishes. Cohasset's Elizabeth Blanchard placed fifth while Middleboro's Hana Marshall was eighth.

The Norwell boys scored 24 points behind five top-10 scorers while Middleboro was second with 65 points. East Bridgewater's Nick Uzzo was the individual champion in 15:49. Norwell's Thomas Corbett, Connor Reidy and Sam Foster finished second, third and fourth, respectively.

Middleboro freshman Atley Phinney placed sixth. Carver's Luke Holden was fifth.

BOYS SOCCER

Marshfield 1, Cohasset 0: Cody Holbert scored his 28th goal of the season as the Rams (13-2-1) won their ninth consecutive game. The Skippers (7-8-2) played well despite being down their two top scorers plus another senior captain.

Plymouth North 2, Sandwich 0: Kevin Riley and Ben Young scored for the Blue Eagles while Brad Sorensen also played well.

Somerville 5, Quincy 0: The Presidents dropped the non-league game.

Blue Hills 1, West Bridgewater 1: Ryan McGrath scored off a feed from Colby Hackenson for the Wildcats (9-6-3).

GIRLS SOCCER

Cardinal Spellman 3, West Bridgewater 0: Peyton D’Ambra, Isabella McDonough and Grace Foster all scored for the Cardinals (9-5-4). Taylor Dolan recorded the clean sheet while Peyton Galgana and Clare Varano played well defensively.

Pembroke 4, Plymouth South 1: The Titans won the Patriot League battle.

Avon 5, South Shore Christian Academy 0: Kate Austrino tallied her second hat trick of the wee for the Panthers. Emma MacDonald tallied two goals while Brynn Gaynor and Noelani Milord each had an assist. Micaella Gomes recorded her sixth shutout of the season with the help of strong play from defenders Maryssa Curto and Idylene Semedo. Avon finishes the season at 11-5 and will play in the state tournament for the first time since 2015.

Notre Dame Academy 5, Marshfield 1: Sophomore Sydney Comeau tallied four goals for the Cougars.

East Bridgewater 1, Bridgewater-Raynham 1: Makena Columbus scored the lone goal for the Trojans while Cori Cahill played well in net.

FIELD HOCKEY

Plymouth North 3, Duxbury 0: Maeve Campbell score two goals in the win bringing her career total to 100 points (66 goals, 34 assists). Megan Petrarca scored the other goal while Lily Johnson had the shutout.

Hanover 2, Silver Lake 0: Ava Toglia (assist) and Emma Hammett scored for the Hawks (14-2-2). Mia Nofi also had an assist. MaryKate Vermette and Olivia Campo combined for the shutout in the win.

VOLLEYBALL

Barnstable 3, Quincy 0: The Presidents were swept 25-17, 25-18, 25-17.

Norwell 3, Randolph 0: The win clinched the South Shore League Sullivan Division for the second consecutive year for the Clippers. Norwell also set a program record by collecting their 17th win of the season.

North Quincy 3, Notre Dame Academy 2: The Raiders (19-1) won the five-set thriller (25-20, 16-25, 18-25, 25-23, 15-10)
