High school football roundup: Creekside prevails late again, strengthens playoff position

Wilson Edwards found Ashton Reynolds on fourth-and-goal from the 14 with 34 seconds remaining as Creekside (6-2, 2-2 District 3-4S) won its latest wild finish at Fleming Island (4-3, 0-3).

Florida State commit Samuel Singleton pushed Fleming Island into the lead with a 12-yard TD run with 3:12 left. Cibastian Broughton threw three touchdowns for the Golden Eagles, two to Singleton and one to Darion Domineck.

Ronald Daragjati converted three field goals for Creekside, which hosts winless Atlantic Coast next week. The Knights entered the week ranked No. 5 in Region 1-4S, and likely strengthened their grip on a postseason wild card berth.

Flagler Palm Coast 55, Celebration 0

Dennis Murray Jr. tossed touchdowns to four different receivers, Marcus Mitchell scored twice and gained 79 yards on just eight carries and the Bulldogs (6-3) made quick work of Celebration (0-7).

Murray completed 10 of 15 passes for 183 yards, and added another score on the ground. Mitchell, Ethan Roland, Ashton Bracewell and Rodney Hill caught the TD passes.

District 4-4S champion FPC has a bye in Week 10 before visiting DeLand on Nov. 4.

Clay 28, Matanzas 23

Landon Chadwick passed for a touchdown and ran for another to lead to help Clay keep District 4-3S hopes alive with a win over Matanzas (3-5).

The Blue Devils' win prevented St. Augustine from clinching the title outright Friday.

Chandler Thomas also rushed for a score for Clay (3-5), and Dwonya Williams scored an interception return. Jvian Cobbert picked off two passes for the Blue Devils, including a game-sealer with less than a minute to go.

Jackson Lundahl passed for two second-half touchdowns as the Pirates mounted a late rally. Cole Hash accounted for 221 of the team's 255 scrimmage yards.

"We have guys that believe in one another and will do whatever it takes to find a way to claw back in," Pirates coach Matt Forrest said.

Seabreeze 28, South Lake 7

The surging Sandcrabs (4-4) won their fourth consecutive game, taking care of business against South Lake (0-8).

Sam Gonzalez went 9 for 12 for 177 yards and four touchdowns, and he carried the ball 16 times for 113 yards. Eli Campbell had 100 receiving yards, scoring on all three of his receptions. Tashawn Galery tacked on a 40-yard TD reception.

Seabreeze can complete a stunning turnaround and guarantee a playoff spot with a victory next week over Mainland.

Ponte Vedra 30, Orange Park 6

Senior linebacker Trooper Price forced a pair of turnovers, helping the Sharks (4-4) even their record with a victory over visiting Orange Park (2-6). Brian Case ran for three Ponte Vedra touchdowns.

The Sharks head to Nease next week. Nease ended Ponte Vedra's 11-year winning streak in the rivalry last fall.

Stanton 14, St. Joseph 0

The game between Stanton (1-6) and St. Joseph (2-6) was ended in the second quarter after multiple injuries, with the Blue Devils ahead 14-0. If the Florida High School Athletic Association rules a forfeit, Stanton would end its losing streak at 17 games.

Orangewood Christian 36, Father Lopez 15

Orangewood Christian (1-6) withstood a wild first quarter in which 37 points were scored to pull away from Father Lopez (4-4) for its first win of the fall.

The Green Wave, which held a playoff spot in Region 2-1S as of Wednesday, return home to take on Halifax next week.

Beachside 55, Crescent City 41

Late touchdowns from Bryce Gee and Cohen Beebe helped Beachside (5-2) finish a wild win over Crescent City (4-4).

The Barracudas can ensure their first season is a winning one Thursday when they visit St. Joseph.

Interlachen 46, Halifax 0

Interlachen (8-0) scored 30 first-half points and kept its record unblemished with a comfortable win over visiting Halifax.

The Knights (2-6) visit district rival Father Lopez next week.

Keystone Heights 38, Taylor 0

Taylor (1-7) lost its seventh straight game, and fourth via shutout, in a loss to Keystone Heights (2-6).

The Wildcats close their campaign with back-to-back matchups against Volusia County opponents, Atlantic and Father Lopez.

Mount Dora Christian 50, Trinity Christian 0

Trinity Christian finished its regular season with a lopsided loss at Mount Dora Christian. The Eagles have a 1-6 record, scoring 54 points in their seven contests.
