Volleyball: Watertown finishes off weekend sweep of Rapid City schools

Watertown High School's volleyball team posted 3-0 wins over Rapid City Central and Stevens over the weekend in the Civic Arena.

On Saturday afternoon, the Arrows (6-4) downed Central 25-15, 25-11 and 25-11. Watertown opened the weekend with a 3-0 (25-18, 25-19 and 25-15) over Rapid City Stevens on Friday night.

Against Central, Kendall Paulson went 15-17 serving with two aces and seven kills and Emily Tisher added five kills, 10 digs and one solo and one block assist for lead Watertown. Grace Corey was 17-18 serving with three aces and 13 assists. Eve Hauger contributed five kills, Carter Jurrens five kills and two block assists, Miranda Falconer 10 assists, Emery Thury one solo and three block assists and Maddy Rohde seven digs.

Against Stevens, Falconer went 19-20 serving with three aces and 12 assists, Tisher 11-11 serving with an ace and 10 kills and Corey 9-10 serving with an ace, 23 assists and 10 digs.

Hauger contributed eight kills and five block assists, Jurrens seven kills and five block assists, Thury six kills and four block assists , Rohde 22 digs and Paulson 10 digs.

The Arrows visit No. 1 Class AA Sioux Falls O'Gorman on Tuesday.

Arlington Invitational: Top-rated Class B Warner (10-1) suffered its first loss of the season but still won a tiebreaker to win the Arlington Invitational on Saturday. Warner, Elkton-Lake Benton and Burke each went 4-1 on the day. Deubrook Area finished 2-3, Arlington 1-4 and Faulkton Area 0-5.

Clark-Willow Lake Tournament: Estelline-Hendricks (9-1 overall) went 4-0 to top a 10-team field in the Clark-Willow Lake Tournament on Saturday in Clark. Redfield and Webster Area each went 3-1.

Clark-Willow Lake, Deuel, Aberdeen Christian, De Smet, Wilmot, Great Plains Lutheran and Hithcock-Tulare also competed. Complete results were not available.

Big East Conference Tournament: Sioux Valley (5-3) defeated Flandreau 18-25, 25-16, 25-22 and 25-17 to claim the consolation championship in the Big East Conference tournament that concluded Saturday in Chester.

Sioux Valley leaders included Adison Renkly with 16 kills, Ashley Bjerke 22 aces and three blocks, Talya Vincent 19 digs, Kaedyn Sapp 11 digs, Landree Wilson seven kills and Sunny Hesby 12 assists.

Chester Area downed McCook Central-Montrose 25-15, 25-18 and 25-20 in the championship. Baltic took third with a 25-18, 24-26, 28-26, 23-25 and 15-11 win over Garretson and Beresford topped Parker 18-25, 25-20, 25-27, 25-18 and 26-14 for seventh place.

Northwestern 3, Madison 0: Northwestern improved to 6-3 with a 25-19, 25-12 and 25-22 win over Madison, Ella Haven produced 21 kills, Brooklinn Halverson 28 assists and Payton Grandpre 14 digs and three aces for the Wildcats.

Olivia Holmen notched three aces and four blocks, Kyrie Roberts 13 assists, Lanaya Hayes six kills, Abby Kjenstad five kills and Grace Powers 11 digs for GPL.

Hamlin 3, Milbank 2: Hamlin overcame a late fourth-set deficit to stay unbeaten with a 25-21, 19-25, 15-25, 27-25 and 15-11 Northeast Conference win.

The Chargers (4-0, 2-0) were led by Gracelyn Leiseth with 20 kills and two block assists, Emily Everson 15 kills, Addie Neuendorf 11 kills and 20 digs, Jayci Trowbridge four aces, Marissa Bawdon two aces and Kami Wadsworth 46 assists, 15 digs and two block assists.

Rachel Schulte tallied 15 kills, 19 digs and five aces for Milbank (3-1, 3-1). Other leaders for the Bulldogs were Casside Seesz, three aces and seven kills; Rylie Overby 11 kills; Claire Snaza, nine kills; Addisyn Krause, 25 assists; Averie Engebretson, 24 assists and 22 digs; and Hallie Schulte, 25 digs.

Webster Area 3, Clark-Willow Lake 0: Elliott Steiner's 12 assists and 20 digs sparked the Bearcats to the 27-25, 25-13 and 25-21 Northeast Conference win.

Baylie Somsen went 14-15 serving with eight assists and Mikala Wagner 15-16 serving with seven kills for Webster Area (5-1 overall and 4-0 in the NEC). Gracie Cadwell contributed 11 kills, Erin Sannes three block assists and Bayleann Moen 16 digs.

Sara Thonvold made 10 good serves and two kills, Shay Michalski nine good serves and three kills, Sami Brenden six assists, Avery Lee six digs and Emma Nichols three digs for the Cyclones (1-4, 0-2).

Castlewood 3, Iroquois-Lake Preston 0: The Warriors pushed their record to 6-1 with the 25-17, 25-16 and 25-15 victory.

Castlewood leaders included Lyndsey Archer with five aces and 16 digs, Gracie Haug 26 assists and 10 digs, Mackenzie Everson 13 kills, Maddie Horn 12 kills, Kelly Goens three kills, Emerson Carter one solo block and one block assist and Kailyn Larson 12 digs.

The Sharks (1-4) received 12 assists from Rebecca Bich, nine kills and three blocks from Faith Steffensen, five kills and 12 digs from Adison Moore, two kills and three blocks from Hadlee Holt, 14 digs from Ava Malone and six digs from Angel Henry.

Deuel 3, Britton-Hecla 0: The Cardinals improved to 2-4 overall and 1-3 in the Northeast Conference by winning 25-17, 25-19 and 25-19.

Josie Andersen tallied nine assists and two aces, Harley Hennings six kills and five digs, Emma Sattler four kills and two blocks, Gracie Fieber seven assists, Annika Kriz six digs, Emma Hamann four digs and McKenna Olson two blocks for Deuel.

The Braves (1-5, 1-2) were led by Alyssa James with two aces, two blocks and three kills; Sterling Brassfield three kills; Jayden Bender seven assists; Heather Storbakken four assists; Katee Freeman 13 digs; and Keagan Fredrickson six digs.

Redfield 3, Sisseton 1: Gracie Fast smacked 13 kills and Katie Rozell 10 to power Redfield to the 25-19, 25-12, 21-25 and 25-12 Northeast Conference win. Rozell also had four solo blocks and one block assists.

Mallory Smith chipped in with three aces, Camryn Rohlfs 31 assists and Chloe Zens 20 digs for Redfield (4-1 overall and 3-0 in the NEC).

Sisseton fell to 2-4 and 0-3.

Warner 3, Northwestern 1: Top-rated Class B Warner improved to 10-0 by beating the second-ranked Wildcats 25-14, 28-30, 25-16 and 25-17.

Lauren Marcuson (three aces, 17 kills and 15 digs), Kyra Marcuson (17 kills), Ava Nilsson (46 assists and nine digs), Kami Anderson (nine kills) and Courtney Bjorgaard (29 digs) paced the Monarchs.

Ella Haven had 17 kills, 18 digs and one solo and three block assists for Northwestern (5-3). Ashley Haven added seven kills and 12 digs, Brooklinn Halverson 24 assists and four kills, Ella Boekelheide 12 digs and Kyara Ratigan three block assists.

Waubay-Summit 3, Waverly-South Shore 2: Waubay-Summit (2-5) prevailed 25-18, 30-32, 25-12, 20-25 and 15-9 over the 1-6 Coyotes.

Notes: Sioux Valley lost to McCook Central Montrose 3-1 (25-19, 24-26, 25-20 and 25-18) in the Big East Conference tournament, but no score or results were reported for the Cossacks' second match. No scores or other details were available from the Northern Cass (N.D.) at Tri-State match.

Huron improved to 7-0 with a 3-1 Eastern South Dakota Conference victory over Watertown on Tuesday night in the Civic Arena.

The host Arrows (4-4) won the opening set 25-19 before the Tigers rebounded to win the final three sets 25-19, 25-18 and 25-22.

Emily Tisher smacked 14kills to lead the Arrows. Kendall Paulson added two aces and 23 digs, Emery Thury two aces and five kills, Grace Corey 18 assists, Miranda Falconer 13 assists, Eve Hauger two solo and four block assists, Carter Jurrens two solo and five block assists and Maddy Rohde 14 digs.

Castlewood 3, Waverly Shore 0: The Warriors (5-1) cruised to 25-7, 25-4 and 25-5 set victories. Castlewood leaders included Mackenzie Everson with four assists and eight kills, Lyndsey Archer five aces and seven digs, Maddie Horn six aces, Gracie Haug 18 assists and Cassidy Kirwan and Emerson Carter three kills apiece.

Emily Heuer made four assists, Lily Revalee three kills and Bridget Eschen 11 digs for the Coyotes (0-5).

Deuel 3, De Smet 2: Deuel outlasted De Smet in the Lake Central Conference battle 18-25, 25-18, 19-25, 25-23 and 15-11. The Cardinals are 1-4 overall and 1-1 in the LCC and the Bulldogs 2-3 and 1-2.

McKenna Olson and Emma Sattler each tallied seven kills and two blocks for Deuel. Josie Andersen added three aces, 15 assists and 10 digs from Josie Andersen; eight assists from Gracie Fieber; three blocks from Kaitlyn Gubrud; eight digs from Annika Kriz and six digs from Emma Hamann.

De Smet's leaders included Hazel Luethmers, four aces and three blocks; Emma Albrecht, three aces and 15 assists; Jada Burke two aces, 10 kills and 19 digs; Megan Dylla, six assists; Mirra Beck, five kills; Cori Birkel, three kills and three blocks; Olivia Johnson, two blocks; Jacie McCune, 10 digs; and Ella Poppinga, seven digs.

Deubrook Area 3, Flandreau 1: The Dolphins (1-2) broke into the win column by winning 29-27, 18-25, 25-19 and 25-22. Brooke Koppatschek tallied 13 assists, five kills and two blocks; Taylor Ekern two aces; Zoey Molengraaf seven kills and four blocks; Miranda Moravetz six kills and 28 digs; Ellie Koenig seven assists and Delaney Pedersen 21 digs.

Claire Sheppard finished with 18 kills and four blocks, Lizzie Pavlis eight kills and four blocks, Lily Klein eight kills, Abby Schoberl 39 assists, Addy Hammer 28 digs and Sadie Iott 26 digs for Flandreau (2-6).

Webster Area 3, Groton Area 2: The Bearcats won the Northeast Conference match 14-25, 25-18, 25-15, 17-25 and 15-10 to improve to 4-1 overall and 3-0 in league play. Groton Area fell to 3-2 and 1-2.

The Bearcats were led by Emily Tarbox with three aces, Gracie Cadwell 16 kills and two aces, Baylie Somsen 22-25 serving with 15 assists, Elliott Steiner 13 assists and nine kills, Bayleann Moen nine kills and 11 digs, Erin Sannes one solo and two block assists and Jersey Johnson 17 digs.

Anna Fjeldheim tallied 13 kills, Liz Fliehs five kills and 26 assists, Lydia Meier five kills, Carly Guthmiller 23 digs, Sydney Leicht 14 digs and Jerica Locke 10 digs for Groton Area.

Aberdeen Roncalli 3, Florence-Henry 1: The Cavaliers (2-3) outlasted the Falcons (4-1) 25-23, 25-21, 21-25 and 28-26.

Florence-Henry leaders were Caylin Kelly with 10 kills, eight blocks and 24 digs; Taylor Watson 10 kills; Reese Schmidt, 36 assists; Macey Lane, 14 kills; Trinity Watson 10 kills and five blocks; and Karli Sharp 23 digs.

Tiospa Zina 3, Waubay-Summit 1: The Wambdi (1-3) won 23-25, 25-18, 25-12 and 26-24.

Kennadee Bissonette smacked eight kills, Laynee Flute five and Persayah Anderson for Tiospa Zina. Bissonette also had nine digs, two solo blocks and one block assists and Flute six digs. Maryann Garland added 18 assists and Jeslyn Crawford 20 digs.

Kylee Marx produced eight kills and three aces, Katie Karst four kills, Hollie O'Riley five aces and Aubrey Strang and Liza Purdy each two aces for Waubay-Summit (1-4).

Clark-Willow Lake 3, Iroquois-Lake Preston 0: The Cyclones (1-3) won 25-15, 25-19 and 25-22 over the Sharks (1-3). Sami Brenden recorded nine assists, Avery Lee 11 digs, Sara Thonvold three kills and Shay Michalski two kills for Clark-Willow Lake.

Estelline-Hendricks 3, Colman-Egan 0: Estelline-Hendricks (5-1, 1-1) won the Dakota Valley Conference match 25-21, 25-16 and 27-25 over Colman-Egan (3-2, 1-1).

Sisseton 3, Hankinson, N.D. 1: The Redmen improved to 3-1 with a 22-25, 25-19, 25-19 and 25-8 win over Hankinson (5-3).

Kindred 3, Tri-State 0: Kindred improved to 2-0 with the win over the 2-1 Tigers. Set scores were not reported.
