Hallet breaks another record, Tallmadge's 4x100 relay, Kate Archer qualify for state meet
The competition didn’t need a reminder, but Morgan Hallett gave it to them anyway.
It came at the Lexington Division II Regional on Saturday when the Norton sophomore crushed the competition.
Just a few days after setting school and meet records when she won shot put, Hallett did it again in the discus with a toss of 157 feet, 1 inch.
The throw qualified Hallett to next weekend’s state meet and was 9 feet, 1 inch farther than Izzy Granger of Liberty-Benton.
The toss also shattered the previous meet record of 149-8 held by Liberty-Benton’s Alyssa Gary.
“I think this puts her in the perfect mind frame for next weekend,” Panthers coach Kevin Pollock said. “Last year, she was fourth in shot and second in discus at regional and ended up winning shot and finishing third in disc at state. She was feeling good.
"I think this is going to be a different mindset where she’s going to have to be a lot more mature, but she’s the perfect girl to do that. The confidence is going to be there without worrying about her getting too big-headed. She’s one that as things go well it gets better and better. She’s a great kid, a great student. Her athletic mindset is exactly where it needs to be.”
Hallet has company next weekend as Tallmadge will take qualifiers Kate Archer in pole vault and the 4x100-meter relay of Paula Incorvati, Emma Bozic, Megan Reifsnyder and Mia Hurst.
Incorvati, Bozic, Reifsnyder and Hurst set a school record (49.90) and finished fourth behind Toledo Central Catholic, Gilmour Academy and Port Clinton.
Archer finished third with a vault of 11-feet and was just 4 inches from Beaumont’s Madyson Treharne.
