Imagine a venue with "duck fat fried everything," Texas barbecue, a Japanese grill, a gourmet grilled cheese shop, a tacos eatery, and more delectable grub. We are getting hungry just typing about this, dear readers.

Welcome to Main Streat by H-E-B, a food hall located inside the H-E-B Mueller in Austin, which opened yesterday, Tuesday, August 25. The new space will feature several dining options including Roots Chicken Shak by Chef Tiffany Derry, of Top Chef fame, which will serve up hits like duck fat fried chicken wings and strips, chicken sandwiches, duck fat fries with house-made "clucking sauces," banana pudding, sweet tea, Caesar salads, and more. Roots Chicken Shak first opened to much praise in Plano in 2017, so we can only imagine this will please many a new fan with Derry's kitchen magic.

The food hall will also be home to True Texas BBQ serving up brisket, ribs, mac and cheese, potato salad, and more; Calle Taqueria, doling out street taco-inspired hits, Mexican street corn, among other culinary creations; Yumai Japanese Grill with plenty of rice and noodle bowls, and veggie, shrimp, chicken, or beef skewers; The Meltery for grilled cheese enthusiasts, and the Bar at Mueller.

Mmmm...what's for lunch?

“At H-E-B, feeding Texans and their families is at the heart of what we do. We worked hard to create this space and develop tasty menu items, and we’re thrilled to open Main Streat to the entire Austin community,” said Kristin Irvin, Director, Made to Order Restaurants at H-E-B in a company press release. “We’re even more excited to partner with Chef Tiffany Derry. Not only is her food amazing and full of flavor, but her passion for feeding and caring for the community, increasing food education and access, and addressing racial inequity is inspiring and mirrors our beliefs. We’re honored to work with and learn from her.”

In light of the coronavirus pandemic, "robust sanitation" and social distancing procedures will be in effect and a face mask or covering will be required to enter.

To mark Main Streat's grand opening, H-E-B made donations to youth empowerment farming organization Urban Roots and The William B. Travis Institute of Hospitality and Culinary Arts at Travis High School. In addition, H-E-B has also made a $10,000 donation to Thinkery, a children museum in the Mueller neighborhood, to support Thinkery’s online programming and to provide free family memberships for the community’s essential workers.
