'A great ride' for Joseph Case seniors playing in final football game on Thanksgiving

SWANSEA — Thanksgiving Day will mark the final time 14 seniors will put on pads and helmets for Joseph Case High School.

Emotions will be running high prior to their final high school football game, at Somerset Berkley.

"We have one of our larger senior classes since I have been here," Cardinals head coach Anthony Palladino said. "I am extremely excited for them that they get an opportunity to play on Thanksgiving."

Case's last Thanksgiving Day game was in 2019, two years ago. The coronavirus pandemic shut down fall football in 2020, canceling all turkey day games.

The Cardinals come into the contest sporting a 6-3 record against SB.

One of Palladino's top seniors is quarterback Tyler Cabral.

Cabral completed 60 passes for 942 yards and seven touchdowns. He also rushed for 146 yards on the ground for a 7.7 yards per carry and scored a pair of touchdowns

Cabral also kicked nine extra points.

Brady Thibotout is another exciting player for the Cardinals. The senior running back leads the team in rushing (428) and touchdowns (seven). Thibotout also caught six passes.

Then there's seniors Joseph Garrell, Matt Howard and Braden Ventura.

Garrell leads the team in all-purpose yards (577) and kickoff return yardage (165). He also caught 15 passes for a team-high 387 yards and three touchdowns.

Howard has 549 all-purpose yardage, including 154 yards on kickoff returns. He has a team-high 20 passes caught for 293 yards and three touchdowns. Howard has a team-high two interceptions and a fumble recovery.

Ventura is a tough short yardage back who rushed for 296 yards on 49 carries. He averaged six yards a carry along with three rushing touchdowns.

Preston Dyer has shined throughout the season too.

The senior wide receiver has 15 receptions for 182 yards. He also picked off a pass.

Then there are senior linemen Cullen Byrne, Cameron Burgess, Jason Monteiro, Adam Jaglowski and Adam Podesky.

The annual holiday turkey day game Thursday is the final stand for 14 seniors. It will be a day that will create memories to last a lifetime.

"It has been a great ride with this crew," Palladino said. "Any opportunity to watch them play is special for me."
