Grand Canyon basketball takes on local NAIA Ottawa after falling to Arizona State
Grand Canyon's men's basketball team will try to keep Saturday's home game against NAIA Ottawa a trap game after losing Thursday night at Arizona State.
Ottawa University Surprise (7-4) at GCU (8-2), Saturday, 6 p.m., at GCU Arena, ESPN+
About the Antelopes: They're coming off a 67-62 loss at Arizona State, having 13 shots blocked. Guards Holland Woods II (20 points) and Jovan Blacksher Jr., combined for 38 points. The Lopes made only eight of 13 free throws. This is a chance to get better in interior scoring, which has been their weakness through the first 10 games.
About the Spirit: They are coming off a 76-72 loss to Arizona Christian, which is now 40-0 against Arizona colleges in the last 10 years. But the game showed how much this Spirit team has improved. ACU is a top-10 nationally ranked NAIA team. They were led by Josiah De'laCerda and Kolten Hitt, who had 14 points each against ACU.
