Gilbert's Connor Rash is Ames Tribune Athlete of the Week, as voted on by readers
Gilbert junior Connor Rash was selected as the Ames Tribune Athlete of the Week for Aug. 28-Sept. 4 by Tribune readers.
Rash finished first in a reader poll that included 15 top Ames-area performers for last week. He received 69.82% of the votes (118 of 169 total votes).
The other top vote-getter was Collins-Maxwell football player Cooper Wierson (51 votes, 30.18%).
Rash had a big game to help the Gilbert football team end an 11-game losing streak with a 27-14 victory at Carroll last Friday at Carroll.
Rash made 3.5 tackles, including two solo stops, for Gilbert Friday night. He also intercepted a pass and returned it 40 yards.
The talented junior showed off his skills on both sides of the ball against Carroll. He also completed a 19-yard touchdown pass to Owen Wirth on offense.
