Connor Kane of Laney baseball wins StarNewsVarsity Athlete of the Week for April 4-10
It was a close vote this week for StarNewsVarsity Athlete of the Week for April 4-10.
More than 2,000 votes were cast through Wednesday, and Connor Kane from Laney baseball came out on top.
The senior was huge in the Bucs’ playoff push last week. After rain paused the team’s game vs. Topsail, he took the mound on Wednesday and scattered four hits over five innings with seven strikeouts to get the win and hit a three-run homer in the seventh inning for the lead. Then, in an 11-inning win over New Hanover, he hit the walk-off double that ended the Bucs’ 11-game losing streak to the Wildcats.
