Norwegian People's Aid NGO lays off half its staff due to Trump policy
Norwegian People's Aid (NPA), a humanitarian group that helps to demine war zones, will have to lay off more than half of its staff globally, following U.S. President Donald Trump's decision to freeze U.S. foreign aid, it said on Tuesday. In 2024, NPA received 460 million crowns ($41.05 million) from the U.S. State Department for its demining work, it said, with the funding used in Iraq, Laos, Vietnam and Yemen, as well as other countries that have been at war. Trump's announcement of a 90-day freeze on U.S. foreign aid on January 20 has caused dismay among aid organisations worldwide.

Greece on Tuesday announced temporary measures to support workers on its popular tourism island of Santorini as earthquakes rattled the island for a second week. Thousands of earthquakes measuring up to 5.3 magnitude have been recorded in the Aegean Sea off Santorini since February 1, prompting authorities to declare it in a state of emergency for at least a month. Authorities have shut schools on Santorini and nearby islands and deployed rescuers and the army.

Coordinated action involving law enforcement agencies from 14 countries led to the arrest of the four individuals who led the 8Base ransomware group, and 27 servers linked to the criminal network were taken down, the Europol statement said.
