Live scoreboard: Gainesville area Week 1 Friday night high school football games

A Buchholz Bobcats receiver out-maneuvers a Columbia Tigers defender during the opening football game of the season at Citizens Field in Gainesville on Aug. 25.

While last week's preseason classics were fun, the high school football season officially kicks off this week. And unlike last week, these meetings on the gridiron will count for a check in the win column or the loss column.

For a handful of teams in the Gainesville area, Week 1 matchups will give first-year head coaches an opportunity to notch their first win with their respective program.

Meanwhile, teams like Buchholz and Lake City Columbia, which are battling in the Gainesville Sun's Game of the Week, will be looking to gain the respect of other teams across the state.
