Furman's football schedule offers early opportunities for upsets
Furman's 2022 football schedule offers it the opportunity to slay a Goliath. The schedule also offers the opportunity for the Paladins to be slayed by a would-be David.
Furman, a member of the FCS, will make a 32-mile trip in hopes of upsetting FBS Clemson on Sept. 10 in their second game of the season. The teams have played 43 times before, most recently in 2018, but the Paladins haven't won a game in the series since 1936 and have lost 23 times in a row.
In its season opener, Sept. 1, Furman plays the role of the giant, hosting NCAA Division II member North Greenville University. It will be the first meeting between the programs, whose campuses are located 12 miles apart. An upset would give the Crusaders a huge first step in their bid for their first winning season since 2016.
