A fun parade and a room with a view

Hello everyone !

I hope you are enjoying your summer so far !

Journal photographer Kris Craig was in Bristol this Independence Day to do coverage of the venerable parade. The outpouring of spectators was grand. With Covid-19 receding into the past, it was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate. All professional photographers know that the scene of people watching the parade was as interesting as the participants who were marching. Kris has a wonderful eye for moments along the sidelines.

The turmoil of the last couple of years reached into the housing market, as anyone who is trying to buy a house knows. With the lack of inventory in Rhode Island, we had been doing fewer of our “House of the week” photo shoots. But with things coming around a bit, our photographers have been out making pictures of interesting properties once again. Photographer David DelPoio shot pictures of a condo in Providence with a spectacular view all the way down to Narragansett Bay.

But not all the photos we take are of attractive scenes. Kris and reporter Wheeler Cowperthwaite worked on a story that is on the front page of this morning’s Sunday Journal. It tells of a sadly run-down cemetery in Cranston. Trash is everywhere and proper maintenance is not being done. People who have loved ones interred there are understandably upset with the conditions.

Lastly, David had a fun day out on the water with a group of local kids who attend a salt water fishing summer camp. It was a spectacular day when they went out, and it provided an opportunity for him to get some upbeat pictures that ran on our sports page.
