Fort Smith Police arrest bank robbery suspect on Armour Avenue
A bank robbery suspect was arrested after a Wednesday standoff that lasted about six hours in the 3600 block of Armour Avenue.
Charles Abraham Smith, 42, will be charged with aggravated robbery and three counts of aggravated assault stemming from yesterday’s bank robbery and today’s actions. Police said Charles Abraham Smith, 42, was arrested on complaints of aggravated robbery in connection with the attempted robbery at First National Bank on Midland Avenue Tuesday afternoon. Police said a man fled the scene on a bicycle.
Aric Mitchell, the department's public information officer, said the police barricaded the area off and were "trying to deescalate this individual so we can have a peaceful outcome."
