A New York technology entrepreneur was sentenced to five years in prison on Thursday after pleading guilty last year to laundering funds stolen from Bitfinex one of the world's largest cryptocurrency exchanges, with the help of his wife. Ilya Lichtenstein, 35, hacked into Bitfinex's network in 2016, using advanced hacking tools and techniques, and stole about 120,000 bitcoin, the U.S. Justice Department said in a statement. He and his wife Heather Morgan, who used the hip-hop alias "Razzklekhan" to promote her music, were arrested in February 2022.

Judge hears case over Montana rule blocking trans residents from changing sex on birth certificate
A state judge in Montana heard arguments Thursday over policies that block transgender people from changing the sex designation on their birth certificates and driver’s licenses. District Court Judge Mike Menahan did not immediately issue a ruling on the request for a preliminary injunction to block those prohibitions while the case moves through the courts. “We're here today challenging what amounts to the latest manifestation of these defendants' (the state's) singular obsession with singling out transgender Montanans for unequal treatment and discrimination,” said Alex Rate, an attorney for the American Civil Liberties Union of Montana.

The request in federal court comes a week after a judge ordered Giuliani to turn over by Friday a Mercedes that once belonged to actress Lauren Bacall, an heirloom watch and other prized assets to two former Georgia election workers who sued him over his remarks about them as he fought to overturn President-elect Donald Trump’s 2020 election loss. The women were awarded the judgment last year. Giuliani then filed for bankruptcy, but a judge cut that short after finding that the ex-mayor had flouted the process.

"We must take care of our brave men and women in uniform, and Doug will be a great advocate for our Active Duty Servicemembers, Veterans, and Military Families to ensure they have the support they need," Trump said in a statement. Collins, who served in Congress from 2013 to 2021, unsuccessfully ran for election to be a U.S. senator for Georgia in 2020.
