Food bank in Manteca gets big donation from Starbucks

A Manteca Food Bank is getting a big donation from Starbucks to help meet what has been a tremendous need. Starbucks partnered with the Second Harvest Food Bank, which donates food approaching its sell-by date from Northern California coffee shops. The food bank received $83,500 that will go toward hiring a driver to help deliver the food it gets. “For us, distribution on average, since the beginning of March, is up over 200%. In the middle of May and June, we peaked at around 350% and for some perspective, we’re distributing somewhere around 350,000 pounds of food per week,” said Keenon Krick with the Second Harvest Food Bank. The food bank said it expects demand for its services to remain high through the end of the year.
