Flour Bluff's Jennifer Pena voted Caller-Times High School Athlete of the Week
Breaking a 15-year old pool record was good enough for Flour Bluff junior swimmer Jennifer Pena to be voted the Caller-Times High School Athlete of the Week for Jan. 24-29.
Pena clocked a 56.56 seconds in the 100 yard butterfly to coast to the District 30-5A title and break a record that had stood since 2007 by nearly half a second.
The girls swimmer of the meet also won titles in the 100 backstroke, 200 freestyle relay and 400 freestyle relay with her Flour Bluff teammates.
Pena received 11,187 of the 34,992 votes cast, which was 32% of all votes.
Students can only be named Athlete of the Week one time per season, per sport.
Flour Bluff swimmer Patience Orms was second with 9,934 votes.
Nominations are due each Monday by 5 p.m. and can be submitted through email at ctsports@caller.com, by messaging the Caller-Times through its Facebook page, or on Twitter @CallerSports.
Please include statistics from the week's games and any pertinent information or honors.
