MASHPEE — A fire burned through the roof of Summerfield Spa Tuesday afternoon, scorching the sides of two neighboring buildings.
As of 2:30 p.m. firefighters were atop ladders and lifts at 800 Falmouth Road. The equipment elevated the firefighters well above the roof of the spa, as they sprayed water from hoses trying to put out the fire. Mashpee, Hyannis and West Barnstable fire departments were at the scene.
The neighboring buildings are Advanced Audiology Associates and the Vascular Care Group. Each of the buildings' roofs appeared to be damaged.

As of 3:10 pm, there were eight trucks and three ambulances on scene. Firefighters continued to spray the roofs of the buildings, though there were no visible flames. Some smoke could be seen from the tops of the buildings.
Traffic was backed up at the rotary on Route 28 as first responders attended the scene.
Centerville-Osterville-Marstons Mills and Sandwich fire responded, as well as a truck from Joint Base Cape Cod. Also on scene was the Providence Canteen.
“I’m glad to have mutual aid from all over the Cape,” Mashpee Fire Chief Jack Phelan said.
The Summerfield Spa was occupied at the time of the fire and fire alarms did not go off, Phelan said. However, neighbors saw the fire and rushed over to bang on windows and alert those inside. All occupants exited the building safely.
Two firefighters were transported to Falmouth Hospital with minor injuries.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Mashpee police and fire and state police, Phelan said.
