North Fort Myers woman killed in single-vehicle crash Sunday on U.S. 41, Pineapple Lane
A one-car crash on U.S. 41 in North Fort Myers Sunday morning left a 50-year-old woman dead.
A report from the Florida Highway Patrol said the North Fort Myers woman was driving the car south on 41.
When she tried to negotiate a curve in the roadway near Pineapple Lane, she drove the car off the road to the left and hit a tree.
The woman, whom the FHP said was not wearing a seatbelt, died at the scene.
The crash occurred shortly before 3:30 a.m. and blocked the southbound lanes of U.S. 41 for several hours. The road was cleared by 6:30 a.m., the FHP reported.

The death was at least the 98th fatality on Lee County roads in 2021, according to information from the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles.
In 2020, there were 107 deaths on Lee County roads, according to the department, with the 98th fatality reached by mid-December.
