Fareway to open second Clive store Tuesday as metro Des Moines expansion continues
Fareway's expansion in Des Moines' suburbs continues with the opening of its second Clive store Tuesday.
The store at 16035 Hickman Road is about six miles from Fareway's other Clive store at 10151 University Ave. and about 1 1/2 miles away from a Fareway store at 200 SE Laurel St. in Waukee.
The chain opened another store on Mills Civic Parkway in West Des Moines in February and a Fareway Meat Market in Beaverdale last year. It plans to open a Norwalk store and break ground for a Granger store in 2024 and open a third Ankeny store in 2025. It also is converting the Brick Street Market and Café in Bondurant into another location, set to open this year.
The new 24,000-square-foot Clive store will be open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday-Saturday and will feature Fareway's signature full-service butcher counter. It will employ about 90 people, said Emily Toribio, a spokesperson for the Boone-based grocer.
A private ribbon cutting is set for Monday, with the grand opening will be held during regular business hours Tuesday.
The store, Fareway's 135th, will compete with nearby Hy-Vee and Aldi stores.
Altogether, Fareway will add 12 stores in the next two years. In January CEO Reynolds Cramer told the Des Moines Register that the company is pushing into the Kansas City metro market and also is eyeing Wisconsin.
