The Democratic governor sued House Speaker Destin Hall and Senate leader Phil Berger in Wake County court on Friday, aiming to strike down provisions within wide-ranging legislation that removed his power to fill court vacancies and name members of a commission that regulates electricity and natural gas. The Republican-controlled General Assembly enacted the omnibus law in December over then-Gov. Roy Cooper’s veto.

Transgender college students in Utah will be prohibited from living in dorms consistent with their gender identity under a bill that cleared its final legislative hurdle Monday. The state House, which had already passed the measure, again approved it with small tweaks following a heated Senate debate in which one Republican told trans people, “If you don’t fit in, then that’s your own fault.” It passed with veto-proof margins in both chambers and now heads to the desk of Republican Gov. Spencer Cox, who has expressed support for the measure.

CHICAGO (Reuters) -Nevada has confirmed its first human case of bird flu in a farm worker who was exposed to infected dairy cattle, the Central Nevada Health District said on Monday, after authorities last week reported a second strain of the virus in cows in the state. The Nevada worker is recovering after suffering from conjunctivitis, or pink eye, the Central Nevada Health District said in a statement. It added that there is no evidence the virus is spreading from person to person and said the CDC considers bird flu to be a low risk to the public.
