Exeter police create first commemorative patch for UFO Festival

EXETER - The Exeter Police Department has announced it will be offering a first-of-its-kind 2022 Exeter Police Commemorative UFO Patch during this weekend's UFO Festival.

This custom patch is the first official police patch of the Exeter Police Department to recognize the alleged UFO sighting by some Exeter police officers and a civilian on Sept. 3, 1965, which later became known as the “Incident at Exeter.”

The incident was the inspiration for the festival, which will be held Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 3 and 4, in Exeter and is a fundraiser for the Exeter Area Kiwanis Club.

This first run of patches is limited to only 200 and will come with matching number authentication.

The patches, which will cost $10 each, can be purchased by cash or check during the festival on Saturday, Sept. 3, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. (or until they are gone) in front of the town hall. Patches will be limited to 5 per person.

The Police Department will use 100% of the proceeds from the sales to help fund the agency’s new comfort dog program, which was announced in July.

The department has partnered with Hero Pups, a Stratham-based nonprofit dedicated to pairing support dogs with veterans and first responders. This will be the first comfort dog placed with a police department on the Seacoast by Hero Pups since the organization was founded in 2016.
