Evanich siblings — brother Connor and sister Chelsea — lead All-EBC basketball honors for Marlington
It was a good year for the Evanich family when it comes to Eastern Buckeye Conference basketball.
Marlington senior Connor Evanich is the EBC Boys Basketball Player of the Year, while his sophomore sister, Chelsea Evanich, is the EBC Girls Basketball Player of the Year.
The younger Evanich guided the Lady Dukes to a second straight EBC championship, this time outright after sharing it with Salem last year. The 5-foot-10 forward averaged a team-high 15.8 points and a Stark County-best 12.0 rebounds to go with 3.0 steals. She earned all-district first-team honors from the media (All-Northeast Inland District) and the coaches association (District 4).

Evanich's 289 rebounds are a single-season program record. She shot 50.2% from the floor and 76.8% from the foul line as Marlington went 21-3 and lost in a district final to league-rival West Branch.
Marlington’s Mike Stadulis is the EBC Girls Basketball Coach of the Year for the second straight season. Stadulis has guided the Dukes to consecutive league championships. Before that, Marlington hadn’t won a league title since 1993. The Dukes also have been district finalists the last two seasons, with a combined record of 40-7.
Connor Evanich, with his dad Nick as the head coach, led the Marlington boys to a 17-6 record. The 17 wins are the fourth most in program history. A 6-4 forward, Evanich averaged team highs of 16.7 points and 8.3 rebounds after missing most of his junior season because of a broken leg and a torn ACL. He added 2.8 assists per game while shooting 43.9% from the floor, 38.9% from 3-point range and 75.8% from the foul line. His 156 career 3-pointers are a school record, breaking the previous mark set by his father in 1996.
Evanich, who earned first-team honors for the Northeast Inland District and District 4, is the Division I-II selection from District 4 for the North/South All-Star Game.
The EBC Boys Coach of the Year is Alliance’s Larry Kukura, who guided the Aviators to a 16-5 record and an outright league championship. It was Alliance’s first league championship since 2019 (also the last time Kukura was the coach of the year) and sixth in the last 11 years.
