Elite Eight preview: Fleming Island, Stanton in FHSAA flag football regional finals

Region 1-2A

Spruce Creek (19-1) at Fleming Island (14-0)

A big-time clash. Still-unbeaten Fleming Island has a prime offensive weapon in Mykayla Maddox, joined by dangerous downfield threat London Jenkins. For the Hawks, Katie Herb added two more interceptions last week against Spruce Creek, while Taylor Snowden and Angel Norton form a quality combination in the air. Fleming Island won 6-0 last year. The winner advances to a Friday state semifinal at Mandarin, with the opponent to be determined once the Florida High School Athletic Association re-seeds qualifiers based on its ranking system.

A long and difficult road trip awaits the Blue Devils, within sight of their first-ever final four. Quarterback Dianis Morales is an all-around star for the Big Green, and contributed to all three touchdowns against Paxon on Wednesday. Stanton's defense, though, continues to shine, with versatile athletes Catherine Brewer, Courtney Brown and Gabrielle Fajardo each recording takeaways Wednesday when they beat Florida High.
