Election results: Garner now leading over Nevins in Palm Springs District 1 race
Several districts in Palm Springs will be getting new representation on City Council following the Nov. 8 election. But District 1 may hold on to Councilmember Grace Garner as she gained a lead in votes over opponent Scott Nevins on Wednesday.
In Palm Springs' District 1, cable TV personality and DAP Health board member Nevins had been leading over Garner since Election Day, but fell behind 50 votes on Wednesday, with 1,350 to Garner's 1,400. Thousands of votes remain to be counted.
In District 2, where incumbent Dennis Woods did not run, Jeffrey Bernstein was leading Renee Brown 1,939 to 1,599. Bernstein is the owner of Destination PSP, and Brown is the associate curator for the Palm Springs Historical Society.
Ron deHarte has held a steady lead over Joy Brown Meredith in District 3, 1,888 votes to 1,023, or a 65% to 35% margin. Meredith is president of Main Street Palm Springs, and deHarte is the president of Greater Palm Springs Pride. Incumbent Geoff Kors did not seek reelection.
With current Palm Springs Councilmember Christy Holstege recently falling behind Greg Wallis in the race for the 47th Assembly District, it is still unclear whether she will continue to represent the city's District 4 or if that seat will be open.
Mayor Lisa Middleton remains the sole familiar face on the Palm Springs council for now, as her current term is set through December 2024.
