Ed Sheeran Was Asked About His Relationship With Harry Styles, And He Had The Most Supportive Response
Did you know Ed Sheeran and Harry Styles go way back to the early days of the 2010s when their careers were just getting started?
Yep, so on a Tuesday appearance on the Spout Podcast, Ed was asked about his relationship with the One Direction alum, and he had the most adorable response.
The "Shape of You" singer and Harry have known each other since they were teeny boppers. “I've known Harry since he was about 16, and I was 19," Ed began.
"There’s something about going through your formative years, you know, like, it’s quite weird. Like, he’s obviously, like, on top of the world right now and has gone from being in the biggest boy band in the world to then being the biggest solo artist in the world."
“And it’s just, it’s an amazing journey to see. I’m, like, really, like, super, super proud of him," he added.
According to Ed, the Grammy Award-winning buddies crashed on couches together in their early days. "There's a guitarist that both of us knew called Chris, that I wrote 'Lego House' and 'Give Me Love' with, who used to play for the One Direction lads, and me and Harry used to sleep at his house together."
And the pair have been dropping hit after hit since they started. "The day 'What Makes You Beautiful' went number one, Plus [Ed's debut album] went No. 1 the same day..."
"Now, he's on a stadium tour, and I'm on a stadium tour, and it's quite weird looking back at that journey," Ed said.
Need proof of their adorable kinship? The "As It Was" singer and Ed actually have matching tattoos. Back in 2013, Ed told MTV the meaning behind his Pingu tattoo.
"I got that with Harry Styles, he got Pingu [written under his arm]," Ed said. "Kinda like a bro tat."
Pingu is a stop-motion children's series about a curious Emperor penguin who occasionally throws tantrums from the '90s that returned in the early aughts. Adorable.
Talking with the Spout Podcast, Ed also compared his friendship with Harry to the one he shares with another Grammy-winning superstar, Taylor Swift.
“It’s the same thing as Taylor, like, there’s rarely people that, like, totally understand you, and I think both of them, because they are solo artists and are at this level, you kind of talk, and there’s an understanding there that you don’t necessarily get from everyone," he said.
That's interesting because Taylor is Harry's ex, but that was basically a million years ago.
