An early look at the Alabama women's basketball 2022-23 roster, including 5 newcomers

Alabama women's basketball will return at least three starters from the 2021-22 season and will welcome in at least five newcomers as they start to turn to next season.

The Crimson Tide still has some ways to go before finalizing the roster between some returning players confirming their return and trying to fill out the rest of the team through the transfer portal.

Here's a look at the Crimson Tide roster going into next season based on what we know in mid-April.

Returnees (3)

Megan Abrams, Hannah Barber, Brittany Davis

Abrams and Barber have been key contributors for the Crimson Tide since their freshman years, and Davis broke out as a star after taking a season off. The return of the trio will give Alabama building blocks going into next season.

Davis led the Crimson Tide in scoring and rebounding while earning All-SEC second-team honors. Barber was the Crimson Tide's main point guard and consistently hit 3-pointers while being a defensive leader. Abrams found success scoring at all levels, especially with creating drives to the basket.

Newcomers (5)

Sarah Ashlee Barker, Ryan Cobbins, Loyal McQueen, Aaliyah Nye, Karly Weathers

Alabama will welcome five newcomers to next year's roster with one already on campus. McQueen joined the team in January from Georgia Tech after averaging 8.8 points a game her freshman year.

Barker comes to Alabama from Georgia, where she averaged 7.7 points, 4 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game in her freshman season. She was the 2019-20 Alabama Gatorade Girls Basketball Player of the Year.

Baker's experience in the SEC is a plus and should help her make an early-impact addition for the Crimson Tide. Barker and McQueen both bring NCAA Tournament experience.

Cobbins comes from North Dakota State after averaging 10.5 points and 4.6 rebounds per game over three seasons. Nye comes to Alabama from Illinois after averaging 10.6 points over two seasons.

Coach Kristy Curry mentioned previously that Alabama likes both Cobbins' and Nye's versatile skill sets and that they are proven scorers at the college level.

Weathers averaged 23.5 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 steals and 2 blocks for Loretto High in Tennessee during her senior season. She won Tennessee Gatorade Girls Basketball Player of the Year.

All five additions will help add scoring and depth to the roster. Barker, Cobbins, Weathers and Nye are all 5-foot-11 or 6 feet tall, adding height to Alabama's guard rotation.

Uncertain (6)

Myra Gordon, Ahrianna Grizzle, JaMya Mingo-Young, Jada Rice, Taylor Sutton, Khayla Wade Warren

The group has eligibility remaining and Alabama has the scholarships to let everyone return, but none have announced intentions for next season.

Mingo-Young started every game for the Crimson Tide and was the third-leading scorer. Rice and Wade Warren split post duties for the Crimson Tide: both showed flashes during the season but will need to take another step forward.

Kayla Blackshear, Allie Craig Cruce, Taylor Cullinan, Nia Daniels, Ruth Koang

Cruce decided not to use her extra COVID-19 year while the rest entered the transfer portal.
