Domino’s Is Donating 10 Million Slices Nationwide

While a lot of restaurants and their staff are in need of donations to get through the current pandemic, other bigger chains are lucky enough that they can at least afford to offer deals or give out free food to those in need. But Domino’s, who’s managed to make money and hire more staff amid the current COVID-19 disruption, has announced a new relief initiative that at the very least involves a very big number.

This week, Domino’s declared that every single one of its US locations would help with relief efforts by donating at least 200 pizzas in their local neighborhoods. According to Nation’s Restaurant News, that accounts for 6,126 nationwide stores, and roughly 10 million total slices.

While a lot of different brands have dedicated their donations and fundraising efforts towards helping hungry kids or granting needed freebies to medical personnel, it sounds like Domino’s will give the managers of its locations some leeway to determine where to direct their efforts.

"We empowered our managers to look for opportunities in their local neighborhoods to donate pizzas to those in need," Domino's franchisee Pat Farmer, who owns stores in the Seattle-Tacoma area, told NRN. "It could be for families, frontline workers or even those showing up to work at our grocery stores. Stores are now actively looking for who they can help next. They have pride in how they're making a difference during difficult times."

On that note, some franchisees and managers have already taken advantage of that freedom to up the giving from the minimum of 200 pizzas to close to 1,000 in some cases. Franchisees in Memphis and San Diego are among those already raising the bar.

There are a lot of people in need right now, and free pizza is just the kind of thing people need to lift their spirits. Here’s hoping that other pizza places who can afford to do so join in the effort.
