Ryanair calls for alcoholic drink limit at EU airports amid legal action against unruly passenger
Ryanair is calling on European authorities to limit the sale of alcoholic beverages at airports across the continent, as the Irish airline continues legal action against a passenger who it says caused a costly flight diversion last year. Ryanair alleges that this passenger's “inexcusable behaviour” on a flight from Dublin to Lanzarote in Spain's Canary Islands was so disruptive that it forced the aircraft to divert to Porto, Portugal for safety — where crew members and over 160 other passengers were later delayed overnight. After announcing its civil suit against the passenger last week, Ryanair on Monday shared further information detailing the costs it incurred for excess fuel, lodging, legal fees and more as a result of this diversion.

Judge postpones hearing for suspects in Haitian president's slaying who were hoping to be released
PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (AP) — Nineteen suspects accused in the July 2021 assassination of Haitian President Jovenel Moïse arrived Monday at a courthouse as defense attorneys hoped they would be released, but a judge postponed their hearing once again. The 17 Colombians, all former soldiers, along with two Haitians, waited for their hearing to start in a private residence in an upscale area in Haiti’s capital because a surge in gang violence had forced officials to physically shut down the Court of Appeals in downtown Port-au-Prince. “We hoped for the release of our clients,” said Nathalie Delisca, attorney for the 17 Colombians detained in the case.

Lasers help archaeologists study ancient tattoos on Peruvian mummies
In a new study, researchers used lasers to uncover highly intricate designs of ancient tattoos on mummies from Peru. The preserved skin of the mummies and the black tattoo ink used show a stark contrast — revealing fine details in tattoos dating to around 1250 A.D. that aren’t visible to the naked eye, said study co-author Michael Pittman, an archaeologist at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. The researchers examined around 100 mummies from coastal Peru’s Chancay culture – a civilization that flourished before the Inca empire and the arrival of Europeans.

Ex-employee of Boston's Northeastern University gets prison for hoax bombing
A former employee of Northeastern University was sentenced to one year in prison on Monday following his convicted for staging a hoax explosion in 2022 and fabricating a story about being injured after opening a package delivered to the school's campus in Boston. Jason Duhaime, 47, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge William Young in Boston after a federal jury in June found him guilty of charges that he conveyed false information related to an explosive device and lied to investigators after an incident that prompted an evacuation of buildings on campus. Police and bomb squads swarmed the area in one of the most significant responses to a bomb threat locally since the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing that killed three people and wounded 260 others.
