Streaks beaten by Red Storm
GALESBURG — The Galesburg High School baseball team fell to United 13-7 on Tuesday at Jim Sundberg Field.
The Red Storm (3-3) plated a pair of runs in the top of the first inning but the Silver Streaks (2-4) answered with a run in the bottom of the frame, and they trailed heading into the second inning. The non-conference affair was tied up at 3-all heading into the fourth inning.

United plated seven runs in the top half of the fourth for a 10-3 advantage. The Red Storm added a trio of runs in the top of the seventh, and the Silver Streaks plated four runs in the bottom of the inning but it wasn’t enough to grab the victory.
Tristan Legate had a single, a double and a trio of RBIs for Galesburg. Grant Aten and Thad Morling each had a single, a double, scored twice and batted a run in for the Streaks.
Cormaic Flynn led the way for United at the dish. He went 3-for-4 with a double, had four RBIs and scored three runs.
Noah Leffler had a pair of singles, scored and had an RBI, and Parker Cassidy had a single and two RBIs for the Red Storm.
United’s Aidan Parkins allowed five runs (four earned) on five hits and fanned seven in 6 2/3 innings and received the win.
GALESBURG SOFTBALL
Galesburg remains winless
MOLINE — The Galesburg High School softball team outhit Moline 15-5 on Tuesday in Western Big 6 Conference action.
But eight errors hurt the Silver Streaks, and they fell to the Maroons 14-7.
Sahara Cato went 3-for-4 with three RBIs for Galesburg (0-7). Abbi Sammons went 3-for-3 with a double and batted a run in.
Hannah Dillbeck had a double, a single, a pair of RBIs and scored for the Silver Streaks. Parker Cash had a double, a single and scored. Maci McCants had a triple and a single, and Johanna Peterson had a pair of singles and scored twice for GHS.
Mon-Rose suffers loss
In area softball action Tuesday, Monmouth-Roseville fell to West Hancock 7-4. Karleigh Ashby went 3-for-3 with a two-run homer and had three RBIs for M-R.
AREA BASEBALL
Knoxville falls to Kewanee
KEWANEE — The Knoxville High School baseball team watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in a 12-5 loss to Kewanee on Tuesday.
Colton Harlan took the loss for the Blue Bullets (2-5). He allowed nine runs (eight earned) on 11 hits, and Harlan fanned three in 3 2/3 innings of work.
Beau Honeycutt led Knoxville at the plate. He went 4-for-4 with a double, batted a run in and scored twice.
Payton Hankins had a pair of doubles, a single and touched the dish three times. Harlan had two singles and three RBIs.
In other area baseball acton Tuesday, Orion handed Ridgewood a 17-1 loss in Woodhull. Keagan Hixson opened the bottom of the first inning with a home run to center for the Spartans (0-5).
Abingdon-Avon grabbed a 10-4 win over Havana in Abingdon, and ROWVA/Williamsfield suffered a 6-3 road loss to Peoria Christian.
COLLEGE SOFTBALL
Skyhawks pull away from Chargers late
GALESBURG — Sauk Valley pulled away in the final two innings to defeat the Carl Sandburg College softball team 11-5 on Tuesday in an Arrowhead Conference matchup at the Hungate Baseball/Softball Complex.
The second game of the scheduled doubleheader was suspended in the top of the sixth inning with Sauk Valley leading 25-10. The game will be completed at 3 p.m. April 21 during the Chargers' trip to Dixon.
After the first two Skyhawks were retired in the top of the sixth, a pair of hit batsmen followed by a base hit to center brought home the go-ahead run and broke a 5-5 tie. Sauk tacked on five more runs in the seventh.
Natalie Righi reached base three times for the Chargers, going 1-for-2 with a double, two walks, a run scored and two RBIs.
