Derrian Gobourne returning to Auburn gymnastics for super-senior season

Is Auburn gymnast Derrian Gobourne poised to become WWE wrestling star after signing NIL deal?

AUBURN — Derrian Gobourne left Auburn gymnastics fans wanting more as she walked off the floor for the last time at the NCAA Championships.

Only it wasn't the last time.

Gobourne is returning to Auburn for a super-senior season, she announced Friday morning on social media. She became the program's first individual national champion in 2019, winning the title on vault. But in the second half of her career, she became known for her floor routines that close out every home meet.

Gobourne finished second nationally with her senior floor routine in April, only behind Florida's Trinity Thomas.

RETURNERS: Suni Lee's 'intention is to come back' to Auburn gymnastics as sophomore, Jeff Graba says

Gobourne and Olympic gold medalist Suni Lee are both slated to return for the 2023 season. Lee won the individual national championship on balance beam. Auburn coach Jeff Graba told the Advertiser Thursday that Lee intends to return.

When asked about Gobourne, he said, "Follow Derrian on social media."

"We've had a couple of meetings. Here's how we operate. It's her decision. We will not announce her decision. We're going to back up her decision. If it's to be done, we're going to back that up. If it's to have one more year, we're going to back that up and be really excited, and we're going to cheer and probably not sleep for three days."
