David Blaine Sets ‘Death-Defying’ Live Event at YouTube

Illusionist David Blaine will do his next live TV stunt on YouTube, so not really on TV.

The internet-video company announced Saturday during the Television Critics Association press tour that Blaine has partnered with YouTube originals for what the company is calling “an unprecedented live event” this fall. But this time, the twist is that Blaine, known for darker and more mysterious stunts, will do something “lighter and brighter” for YouTube.

While that sounds nice, YouTube promises it will still be “death-defying.” Blaine was on hand Saturday in Pasadena to tease this event, which includes some kind of aerial component.

Blaine’s last TV special, “Beyond Magic,” aired in 2016 on ABC.

Paris Hilton and Liza Koshy also presented their (individual) new YouTube projects this weekend at TCA event.

In YouTube documentary “This Is Paris,” Hilton speaks publicly for the first time about heartbreaking trauma and pivotal moments in her early life that forged who she is today, according to the project’s description. It continues: As she confronts her past, this deeply compelling portrait will reveal the woman behind the icon and shed new light on our view of celebrity, and the insta-fame culture that Paris helped to create. The film is directed by Alexandra Dean and produced by Aaron Saidman and executive produced by Eli Holzman, via Industrial Media’s Intellectual Property Corporation (IPC) banner. The documentary is set to premiere this May.

In addition to ordering a third season of Koshy’s “Liza on Demand,” YouTube is partnering with her, Prajakta Koli, Thembe Mahlaba, Michelle Obama and the Obama Foundation for “Creators for Change with Michelle Obama: Girls’ Education.” Directed by Joanna Forscher, the project will be first installment from upcoming YouTube Originals learning series, “Creators for Change.” This first episode profiles the experiences of adolescent girls around the world who are overcoming adversity to pursue their education, according to YouTube.

Debuting in March 2020, the special documents a recent visit to a school in Vietnam as part of the Obama Foundation’s Girls Opportunity Alliance, as well as trips to India and Namibia. “Creators for Change with Michelle Obama: Girls’ Education” is being produced by Vox Media Studios.
