Dale Zorn narrowly secures Republican nomination for new 34th House District
A large part of Lenawee County will have a new state representative this fall, and voters in Tuesday’s primary election narrowed down the candidates who will appear on the November general election ballot for the new 34th District in the Michigan House of Representatives.
A tightly contested Republican primary resulted with current state Sen. Dale Zorn, R-Onsted, narrowly defeating retired Madison Township Fire Chief Ryan Rank for the Republican nomination by seven votes, 4,774 to 4,767, according to election results and information provided by Lenawee County.
A third candidate on the Republican ticket, Julie Moore, a nurse from Adrian Township, received 2,413 votes.
Zorn cannot run for reelection to the Michigan Senate because of term limits. He moved from his longtime home in Ida to his family cottage at Sand Lake in order to run for the House. He has been a member of the Michigan Senate since 2015 and has previously served four years in the House of Representatives.
In the November general election, Zorn will challenge Democrat John Dahlgren of Clinton, who was unopposed in the primary. Dahlgren received 4,916 votes in Tuesday’s election.
