The 19-year-old driver of the Nissan Murano that crashed into a tree in Daytona Beach early on April 1, killing three teens, may be facing charges, police said on Thursday.

Daytona Beach police have released little information about the wreck and have not identified any of the victims.

"There may be criminal charges filed against the driver, so we just want to make sure we have everything completed in our investigation before releasing any information," said Daytona Beach Police Chief Jakari Young.

The father of one of the victims identified the driver as "Miguel" to the News-Journal. Young declined to confirm or release the identity of the driver citing the ongoing investigation.

Daytona Beach police said the Nissan Murano, occupied by five teenagers, was westbound on International Speedway Boulevard when it ran off the road and crashed into a tree near Franklin Street.

Killed in the early morning crash were siblings Richard Anthony Acevedo, 19, and Adam Robert Acevedo, 17, both of Deltona, and 14-year-old Michael Liburd, according to a News-Journal investigation.

The 19-year-old driver, whom the father of the Acevedo boys said was his son Richard's best friend, and a 16-year-old girl were injured and taken to Halifax Health Medical Center.

In a recent interview with the News-Journal, Richard Acevedo said he spoke to Miguel and told him he was not mad at him, he said.
