Complaints against Franklin alderman are still coming in. Here's what residents have said.

Ethics complaints calling for the resignation of Franklin Alderman Gabrielle Hanson continue to arrive in the email inboxes of city officials since her controversial views about the Covenant School shooting were made public last month.

As of Monday, the city and board of aldermen had received nearly 60 complaints.

It all started during a podcast interview. Hanson professed an unfounded belief in a love-triangle motive for the Nashville school shooting on March 27, while also suggesting she experienced a premonition about the tragedy.

The complaints, which have been sent to city staff, the mayor and aldermen by email, have largely conveyed some version of the same message: Citizens were upset by Hanson’s statements and her representation of the city and are seeking her resignation.

People have 30 days from the April 18 incident to file an ethics complaint. The alderman has 30 days to respond. The city's ethics committee will hold a public hearing within 60 days, which is June 20, at 5 p.m. at Franklin City Hall.

In addition to discussion of Hanson’s resignation, some residents angered by her comments are eyeing this year’s city election. Hanson’s seat, as well as the mayor's position and those of three other at-large aldermen, will be on the Oct. 24 election ballot.

What do ethics complaints say?

Below are excerpts from complaints made against Hanson, which the city provided after a records request by The Tennessean.

Amanda Edwards: “The Nashville and middle Tennessee communities are already hurting and suffering with this latest gun tragedy so close to home. We expect more from our leaders. I am asking for her resignation or expulsion as alderman for our city.”

Barbara Crunk: “Now is a time for support from our community not compounding and adding to their grief. I’m embarrassed for Franklin. I’m originally from here and we are better than this. We are better than her messaging. She does not deserve to continue to represent us. She absolutely does not represent me. Please tell us what we can do to have her removed so that if she feels the need to continue this rhetoric she does so not as our alderman.”

David Carter: "It's been a rough month for those of us who call Middle TN, Williamson County, and Franklin home. Having moved here in 1993, I've seen the wonderful, welcoming nature of this area.

"According to her website, in 2012, Gabrielle Hanson moved to Franklin. Maybe it's because she never got to experience the small-town charm of Earl's Fruit Stand during the fall. Or perhaps it's because she's only known mega-developments like Westhaven as her home. But one thing is clear: Gabrielle's values and perception of what Franklin is, or moreover, what it should be, don't align with those of us who grew up here. They certainly don't align with those of us who hope to raise our children here. And ultimately, they don't represent the compassion or neighborly love that we should hope to cultivate in our local communities."

Kate Osher: “I can’t imagine a civilized world where this type of conduct is acceptable alderman conduct. Is this really who we want representing the City of Franklin? This is not political disagreement — it is defamatory speech (she even claimed actress and Nashville resident Melissa Joan Hart must have known the shooting was going to happen or why was she there in the area at that time). Her comments are simply shameful.”

Shannon Seibert: “I am a lifelong Franklin resident, have lived here since 1977, graduated from Franklin High School in 1988. Ms. Hanson is a dangerous representative of my beloved community and city. She should be removed immediately. Our leadership must stand up to bullies who spread these conspiracy theories! She is creating more hate with her lies when we already have so much hurt, pain, and division. She violates basic ethics required of city public representatives.”
