College Basketball | Senior Emma Cannon scores 18 points as Mt. Union cruises past Muskies
Playing what appears to be their last home game of the season, the Mount Union women's basketball team defeated visiting Muskingum 84-71 in an Ohio Athletic Conference game on Wednesday night.
The Purple Raiders (9-12, 6-9) should be locked into the No. 6 seed for the OAC tournament which begins next Monday. Mount Union will likely open the conference tournament on Tuesday at No. 3 seed Marietta. The pairings will be determined by a strength of schedule formula and announced on Sunday.
Emma Cannon led the Purple Raiders with 18 points, while Maddy Miles added 11 points and 10 rebounds, while Isa Palamone finished with 11 points and eight boards.
Mount Union forced 18 turnovers and converted those into 29 points. They took the lead for good (9-8) on a basket by Kelsie Glass midway through the first quarter and finished the period with an 11-0 run to lead 27-13.
Taylor DeMassimo led Muskingum (9-13, 4-11) with 16 points, while Caitlyn DeMassimo, Abby Jones and Kenzie Bicking all scored 10.
Former Southeast standout Halle Morehead scored four points for the Muskies, who are coached by Sebring native Erin Eaton.

NEW CONCORD — Mount Union strengthened its hold on second place in the OAC men's basketball standings with a road victory Wednesday night.
Braedon Poole led four players in double figures with 24 points. He also had seven rebounds.
Ethan Stanislawski added 14 points and five assists for the No. 10-ranked Purple Raiders (20-3, 13-3 OAC), while Chris Painter and Darrell Newsom scored 13 points each.
Alex Masinelli led Muskingum (5-19, 2-15) with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Zaveon Croff added 10 points.
Mount Union led 25-20 with six minutes remaining in the first half before finishing on an 18-9 run to lead 43-29 at the break.
The Purple Raiders' lead stretched to as many as 28 points (67-39) on a Christian Parker basket with 12:52 remaining in the game.
Both Mount Union teams complete the regular season on Saturday at Otterbein. The women will tip off a 2 p.m. with the men's game to follow.
