CMA Awards 2022: Cody Johnson's 'Til You Can't' heads to country music's biggest night

Cody Johnson's dream-chasing hit "'Til You Can't" takes center stage Wednesday night at the CMA Awards.

Johnson, a Texas native who cut his teeth for years as an independent country artist before breaking into mainstream success, performs the career-making song inside Bridgestone Arena months after it stormed country radio charts to reach No. 1. It was the first No. 1 song for Johnson, a singer-songwriter rising fast among the ranks of country music's premier modern storytellers.

A resonating reminder to chase a dream at all costs, "'Til You Can't" spent two weeks at No. 1 in March, per the Billboard Country Airplay chart – a rare achievement for chart-topping songs in the format.

"This is something that people in radio have told me: This song is going to be around forever," Johnson told the Tennessean earlier this year. He added: "My first No. 1 hit wasn't about cut-off shorts or four-wheel drives. It was about something that might change somebody's life. I take a lot of pride in that."

And it's already a CMA Award-winning tune. "'Til You Can't" earned Music Video of the Year, one of two pre-show awards announced Wednesday during "Good Morning America."

The 56th annual CMA Awards air Wednesday at 7 p.m. on ABC.
