Saudi 2025 budget sees lower deficit on spending trims
Saudi Arabia on Tuesday approved a budget for 2025 that projected a smaller deficit than last year despite continued heavy spending on reforms to transition the economy away from oil. In 2022, Saudi Arabia recorded its first budget surplus in nearly a decade after Russia's invasion of Ukraine led to a surge in oil prices.

Outgoing North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper vetoed legislation on Tuesday that would strip powers from several Democrats elected to statewide office this month, including removing the authority of Cooper's successor to appoint the state elections board. While the bill contains additional Hurricane Helene relief provisions, critics say the amount is relatively small and most of the relief funds can't even be spent until the General Assembly reconvenes next month.

Jordan airdrops aid to northern Gaza for first time in five months, official source
Jordanian military planes dropped aid to northern Gaza on Tuesday for the first time in five months to help relieve the dire humanitarian situation in the enclave, the army said. Two C-130 planes belonging to the Jordanian air force dropped the cargo, comprising nearly seven tonnes of food and other essential relief, to areas the U.N. agencies identified as most in need, the army said. A U.N. aid official said last week that Gaza aid access had reached a low point, with deliveries to parts of the besieged north of the enclave all but impossible.
