Celebrate National Cupcake Day at these four places in Alexandria and Pineville
Happy National Cupcake Day to each and every one! To celebrate, here are four places in Alexandria and Pineville where you can get the tasty treats of your choice. You can pick one to indulge your sweet tooth. Or, gather your friends and do a cupcake crawl across town.
1. Little Cakes with Big Attitude
4120 Jackson St, Alexandria

The signature cupcake flavor at Little Cakes with Big Attitude is Southern Pecan but it is one of four favorites that include Red Velvet, Wedding Cake and Vanilla Sea Salt Caramel.
The bakery has been in business for 13 years and is owned by Robyn Schwartz and Bridget Vaughn. During those years, they have won Best Dessert and Best Bakery in The Town Talk Best of the Best awards nearly every year.
Schwartz said 13 flavors are offered everyday. There are 11 daily flavors, one weekly flavor and a flavor of the month.

2. Doce Vida Brazilian Bakery
1260 G. Texas Ave., Alexandria

Doce Vida Brazilian Bakery has 23 different flavors of cupcakes, said owner Neila Craig. The top favorites are Chantilly, Lemon Meringue and Reese's Cup.
The Chantilly cupcake is offered daily and two other flavors are made every other day. If you are craving a certain flavor, you can always place an order.
Craig said the bakery does specialty cupcakes and cakes in other flavors that have to be ordered. She also decorates cupcakes and cakes with artistic elements such as mermaids and unicorns.
"We do more of specialty cupcakes than anything else because that's what people look for when they order," said Craig.
The brick-and-mortar bakery has been open for two years but Craig has been baking for more than 30 years. Prior to opening the bakery, Craig used to sell her baked goods at the Alexandria Farmers Market.

3. Atwood's Bakery
1125 MacArthur Drive, Alexandria

Atwood's Bakery hosts a themed Decorate Your Own (DYO) Cupcake event a few times during the year. Children and adults are shown how to design and decorate their own cupcakes with frosting.
"We're going to be doing one for the holidays," said Aaron Atwood, owner and general manager. The theme will be elves and penguins.
Atwood's offers two specialty cupcakes. The Furry Monster is a traditional vanilla cupcake decorated with colored icing complete with eyes and nose. The Berry Chantilly Cup is a split cupcake topped with fresh fruit and Chantilly cream.
Atwood's also has Red Velvet, Turtle Chocolate and Vanilla flavors.

4. Harlow's Bakery
1322 Military Highway, Pineville

Harlow's Bakery mostly has chocolate and vanilla cupcakes on hand. Sometimes the bakery offers filled cupcakes such as Salted Caramel, Caramel Pecan and Strawberry Cream Cheese or other flavors such as Lemon and Red Velvet, said head decorator Dawn Ramo.
Harlow's also offers cupcake cakes — two dozen cupcakes put in a shape such as a Christmas tree or wreath and decorated on top like a regular cake. But they aren't just for the holidays.
"Any cakes you see we can do with cupcakes and decorate on top," said Ramo. The cupcake cake is perfect for a child's birthday party since they are easy to serve.
Harlow's also has mini-cupcakes that are perfect for preschoolers to take to class since they can fit in their hand.
