Castelli's 21 leads Ponaganset past South Kingstown in return to Division I girls hoops
Julia Castelli hit five 3-pointers and had the Ponaganset girls basketball team flying up and down the court, as the Chieftains came away with a 63-50 win over South Kingstown in their return to Division I.
Castelli led Ponaganset with 21 points. Jessica Hassell hit two 3-pointers and finished with 11 points and Ella Pierre-Louis scored 11 in her Chieftains’ debut. Jaina Yekelchick added seven in the win.
Sophie Mahar was the lone Rebel in double figures, scoring 17 points in the loss.

Division I
North Kingstown 53, Bay View 52
Down a point with the clock running out, Jordan Moreau rebounded a missed free throw and went coast-to-coast for a buzzer-beating layup, giving the Skippers a 53-52 win over the Bengals.
North trailed by as much as 20 before coming alive in the second half. Moreau led NK with 15 points and freshman Jaelyn Holmes scored 13. Jillian Rogers was also in double figures, scoring 11 points.
Amelia Poliechetti scored 17 points to lead Bay View and Ahtiana Benway scored 14 points in the loss.
Division II
North Providence 32, Prout 19
Alena Rizzo scored all eight of her points in the second half and Emily Iannuccilli made clutch free throws in the fourth quarter to help the Panthers take down the Crusaders, 32-19.
Rizzo scored half of the JNP’s points in the second quarter, then added three more to help seal the win. Iannuccilli finished with eight points as well, hitting four free throws in the fourth. Graycen Pappas and Ava Waterman both added six in the win for the Panthers.
Milly Green had a big second half herself, scoring six of her eight points in the final two quarters to lead Prout.
Non-league
Somerset-Berkley 50, Mt. Hope 33
Elsa White scored 14 points, but it wasn’t enough to help the Huskies in a tough 50-33 non-league loss to Somerset-Berkley. Lauren Pais added six for Mt. Hope.
