Carnival rides, fair food and agricultural heritage: Vermont fairs and field days are back

Vermont's agriculture, landscape and seasonable weather shine at fairs and field days across the Green Mountain State.

This year 13 events mark the prime season from June through September. Many events last three days or longer giving revelers a chance to balance a visit with other summer plans or come back for more fun or to purchase that item that caught their eye the first go round.

Visitors can celebrate Vermont's agricultural heritage, gnosh on local produce, food and drink; ride carnival rides; see livestock up close; purchase crafts from local makers; and enjoy live music as part of the festivities being offered this year.

More than half of the weekends from June through September have a fair or field day event happening in Vermont. For the biggest fair enthusiasts out there − you could spend five weekends in a row going to events and attend eight of them between Aug. 5 and Sept. 3. (Here's a sample schedule, and yes, I spent my time figuring this out: Franklin County 8/5, Addison County 8/12, Deerfield 8/13, VT State Fair 8/19, Caledonia 8/26, Bondville 8/27, Champlain Valley Fair 9/2 and Guilford 9/3). It could be a great way to see the state and what it has to offer.
