New Cannabis Products: Salves, Rubs, Face Masks And Pet Treats

Javier Hasse

As the cannabis market expands, Benzinga is keeping track of the many products that launch every week. Here's a short list of some of the most interesting new cannabis products launched recently.

Seabedee’s Bark Bites

Seabedee, a CBD wellness company, launched Bark Bites CBD pet treats.

The homemade all-natural, sweet potato treats contain 5 mg of CBD per treat and turmeric, formulated to improve pets’ overall quality of life by helping them keep calm in stressful moments, aid in separation issues and provide anti-inflammatory benefits that support mobility and joint comfort.

"Pets are a huge source of support for their owners, especially during these trying times," said Peter Stadniuk, co-founder of Seabedee. "It's our job as owners to also support them in every way we can. These CBD treats are a great way to help improve overall quality of life and aid furry friends during high stress times."

Peak Extracts’ Topical Salve And Rescue Rub

Peak Extracts, the first adult-use edibles producer licensed in Oregon, launched a line of hemp-infused Rescue Rubs.

Founder Katie Stem, a licensed Chinese Herbalist, developed the base for the company’s new hemp-infused Rescue Rub through years of experimentation in her medical clinic.

“We've been making Rescue Rub for the Oregon market since 2014, however the base of the formula was developed in my Chinese Herbal practice as a salve for inflammation, blunt force trauma and arthritis in 2010,” she told Benzinga. “It's been a top selling topical since Oregon went legal in 2016, and we've received hundreds of requests to make it for a national audience.”

For this new hemp infused topical line, the company kept all the Chinese Herbs, but altered the cannabinoid composition to create three unique products: Rescue Rub CBD Full-Spectrum Formula, Rescue Rub CBD/THC-Free Formula, and Rescue Rub Hawaiian Hemp/CBDa Formula.

“The THC-free formula is extra potent and designed to be compliant even in states with over-zealous law enforcement, or for shipping internationally,” Stem said. “The original formula is made with our full-spectrum CO2 extracted oil, which through our proprietary Terp-Lock process, preserves the naturally occurring flavonoids, terpenes and phytochemicals that make hemp such a medicinally powerful plant. Our third, brand-new product, is a CBDa topical. Made with Hawaiian-grown hemp, it is extracted using an ultra-cold process that leaves the cannabinoids in their raw state.” CBDa has shown great promise in laboratory studies for it's anti-inflammatory effects and has a completely different method of action than CBD and the other cannabinoids, which is why Stem decided to use it as a key ingredient.

Honeybolt’s Cellulose CBD Fask Masks

Honeybolt’s launched a sheet mask, infused with 10 mg of CBD oil and dermatologist-recommended plant extracts.

Potent cannabinoid antioxidants work to undo skin damage from sun, pollution, and other environmental factors.

“We have refined our process down to a science,” said Seb Webber, an executive of Honeybolt. "Our new face masks can create a much-needed wellness boost to help ease anxiety and stress."

Tanasi’s Water Soluble Drink Concentrate

Tanasi has launched its full spectrum water soluble hemp extract drink concentrate. This formulation of cannabidiol (CBD) and cannabidiol-A (CBDA) results in CBD water-soluble drops that can be added to a drink of choice.

The Tanasi hemp extract formula was identified by Ph.D.s at Middle Tennessee State University.

On CNBC's "Fast Money Halftime Report," Stephen Weiss said he sold his position in Walt Disney Co (NYSE: DIS) because he has enough exposure in the stocks that should do well if get a vaccine.Disney is still going to bleed cash, everybody loves it and most of the good news is already in the stock, thinks Weiss. He believes it will trade higher, but he doesn't see much upside for the stock and he thinks others will do better.Jenny Harrington said that interest rates are so low that they're not a competitor to dividend stocks. At 13 times earnings and less, the dividend stocks are super cheap and they offer a tremendous value, relative to a broader market.Harrington likes Enterprise Products Partners L.P. (NYSE: EPD), which has a dividend yield of almost 10% and it trades at 10 times forward earnings. It has very little exposure to crude oil, but it still trades along with crude oil. • Victory Square Execs Talk Rollout Of Rapid COVID-19 Antibody Test

On Tuesday, Russia became the first country to approve a potential COVID-19 vaccine, albeit before completing thorough testing. In the meantime, health care and medical device companies are racing to develop and distribute effective tests to help individuals verify their health. Vancouver-based accelerator Victory Square Technologies (OTCQX: VSQTF) hopes to standardize the process by making its coronavirus antibody test offering affordable and available all around the globe.Victory Square's Coronavirus Test: Earlier this summer, Victory Square Technologies acquired Brazilian medical test manufacturer Safetest, integrating the assets and intellectual property into the portfolio company Victory Square Health. The move was made in preparation to mass produce and distribute a rapid COVID-19 antibody test for end users in the last four months of 2020.The tool takes a drop of the user's blood and can deliver results within 5 to 15 minutes. A more expensive lab test is simultaneously under development.Benzinga spoke with Victory Square Technologies Chief Operating Officer Vahid Shababi and Victory Square Health CEO Felipe Peixoto to discuss the venture's plans to enter the market and its research and development ambitions.BZ: What's unique about Victory Square's COVID-19 test?Shababi: Our test checks if there are antibodies in a person's body. Also, other COVID-19 tests were tested on healthy people's blood samples before and after adding the virus to validate those products. Our team validated our test with COVID-positive patients. We received samples from them to make sure that the accuracy of our test is high.An advantage we have regarding our go-to-market strategy is the fact that the cost per test will be pretty low depending on the area -- between $10-$20.That, combined with the accuracy [and] turnover time for people to see results, makes this test special.plans to enter the market and its research and development ambitions.Benzinga is covering every angle of how the coronavirus affects the financial world. For daily updates, sign up for our coronavirus newsletter.Peixoto: We also have market validation. We have been selected as the main partner of the Sao Paulo state government to apply our tests in local hospitals. We have applied for FDA and [Brazilian] Anvisa approval and hope to receive responses within one or two weeks. We are also going to submit the Health Canada and European Union applications in the next week.BZ: What do your rollout strategy and timeline look like, and who will you partner with to distribute the tests?Shababi: About a month ago, this test was featured by Forbes, and since then we have received many requests from distributors around the world showing interest in our product. In the first phase, we are going to work with distributors that already have purchase orders and connections with pharmacies to get our test out right away, probably in the next 30 days.In parallel to that, we are awaiting approval to sell directly to pharmacies and drugstores in the countries we applied to. In the meantime, we are going to sell directly to consumers through an e-commerce website.BZ: Do you have long-term plans to monitor new viruses or strains that may arise in the future?Peixoto: Our goal is to always be prepared to launch products into the market to combat viruses that appear to be dangerous. What we need in order to develop any new tests is to understand each disease and have some samples to experiment on.We first go to the lab and study bioinformatics. Then, we test on real samples and eventually real people. Our role is to constantly be in contact with health organizations and hospitals to be a step ahead of each disease. We were very happy with the time we took to develop this COVID-19 test, and we will be looking to develop new rapid tests for use cases such as identifying cancer or Alzheimer's. We know we can help the world get better at detecting difficult-to-spot diseases.See more from Benzinga * Venture Capital Fund General Partner Provides Insight On Digitization Surge, SPAC Deals * Fintech Company N26 Looks To Digitize And Disrupt As Pandemic Encourages Online Banking * How Lordstown Motors Plans To Disrupt The Electric Vehicle Sector(C) 2020 Benzinga.com. • HMM Makes Steep Climb Toward Profitability

Despite a global economy walloped by the coronavirus pandemic, HMM on Wednesday reported an incredible 90% net profit improvement in the first half of the year.Even with the steep climb, HMM's net profit remained in the hole at negative 37.5 billion Korean won (minus $31 million) for the first six months of 2020. Still, that number was a drastic move from the trench of negative 379.2 billion won (minus $314 million) reported for the first half of 2019. In other words, that climb took HMM up 341.7 billion won ($288.7 million).HMM did get out of the hole in operating profit, reporting a "turnaround" to a positive in Korean currency of 136.7 billion won (negative U.S. $113 million) for the first half of 2020 compared to negative 218.5 billion won (minus $181 million) in the same period last year. That turnaround amounted to an eye-popping 355.2 billion won ($300.1 million). It achieved these profit leaps despite a volume drop of nearly 21%, from 2,248,000 twenty-foot equivalent units handled in the first six months of 2019 to 1,779,000 TEUs this year. Revenue also was down, albeit less than 1%, from 2.71 billion won (negative $2.24 million) in the first half of 2019 to 2.68 billion won (minus $2.22 million) this year. HMM was among the Asian carriers criticized earlier this year for receiving government aid while some European counterparts struggled without federal assistance during the coronavirus crisis.Huge jumps in profit South Korea's largest container carrier said this week it also had turned a corner with quarterly results, achieving a net profit in the second quarter of 28.1 billion won (negative $23 million) — a 228.8 billion won ($193.3 million) year-over-year improvement from negative 200.7 billion won (minus $166 million) in 2019. The gain in Q2 operating profit was equally impressive, up to a positive 138.7 billion won (negative $115 million) from minus 112.9 billion won (negative $94 million) in the same period last year — a 251.6 billion won ($212.6 million) gain.As in the first half, Q2 revenue was down slightly, 1.6%, from 1.39 billion won (negative $1.15 million) in 2019 to 1.37 billion won (minus $1.13 million) this year.HMM also made gains after the height of the coronavirus passed in Asia in the first quarter of this year. Quarter-over-quarter revenue increased 4.7%, from 1.31 billion won in Q1 2020 to the 1.37 billion won in Q2. But the huge jumps again came in profits, with the operating profit of 138.7 billion won in Q2 2020 up some 140 billion won from the negative 2 billion won (minus $1.69 million) reported just a quarter earlier. Net profit was equally impressive, from negative 65.6 billion won (minus $54 million) in Q1 to positive 28.1 billion won ($23 million) in Q2. Huge container ships HMM's brief earnings release Wednesday attributed the major increases in part to cooperation with THE Alliance and the deployment of its 24,000-TEU-class container ships since April.Formerly known as Hyundai Merchant Marine, HMM has a fleet of about 100 vessels and is a member of THE Alliance, the space-sharing agreement on major east-west container routes, with Hapag-Lloyd, Ocean Network Express and Yang Ming.In its outlook this week, HMM said it would continue to "fully utilize its assets," including the world's largest container ships. HMM announced last October it would issue a 660 billion won ($562.4 million) convertible bond and use the funds for ship and equipment investment and to improve the company's financial structure. It placed an order for 12 container ships each with a capacity of more than 20,000 TEUs. The first, the HMM Algeciras, became the world's largest container ship when it made its maiden voyage in April. The HMM Oslo and HMM Copenhagen were launched in June, followed by the HMM Dublin in June, HMM Gdansk, HMM Rotterdam and HMM Hamburg in July, and the HMM Southampton and HMM Helsinki in early August.Still to come in August and September are the HMM Stockholm, HMM LeHavre and HMM St. Petersburg. Little optimism Despite celebration-worthy ship christenings and financial results, HMM remains cautious. In its forecast for the remainder of 2020, HMM said the "market outlook remains uncertain as coronavirus can reemerge for the upcoming winter season and growing geopolitical tensions between [the] U.S. and China are definitely one of the most important variables." HMM did say it expected freight rates on the trans-Pacific trade to remain strong over the long term, "driven by an increase in freight volumes as the U.S. started to resume economic activities." It noted, however, that the intra-Asia trade will be "challenging amid mounting competition between carriers and oversupply of capacity."HMM earlier this week announced it was going into business with a competitor with the sale to CMA CGM of a "50% stake minus one share" in the Total Terminal International (TTI) Algeciras container terminal in southern Spain.TTI Algeciras is owned by HMM and HT Algeciras, a company it wholly controls. Despite the sale of shares, HMM will retain its position as the largest shareholder through HT Algeciras, making it partners with CMA CGM.Terms of the deal, expected to close in the fourth quarter, were not disclosed, but HMM said in the announcement that it "expects a great synergy effect based on strategic cooperation with CMA CGM in terms of enhancing profitability and operational capabilities by securing additional cargoes."TTI Algeciras, which has a handling capacity of 1.6 million TEUs, formerly was operated by Hanjin Shipping.
