Cal Lutheran University football team's rivalry losing streak extended to nine games

The Cal Lutheran University football fell in its annual Smudge Pot rivalry game for the ninth straight season Saturday night at Rolland Stadium.

Andrew Kellstrom ran for 143 yards and four touchdowns as visiting Redlands scored the first 21 points of a 35-14 win.

Quarterback Nick Lasher completed 23 of 31 passes for 211 yards and two touchdowns for the Kingsmen (3-3), who fell to 1-1 in SCIAC play.

Lasher’s 20-yard TD pass to Jadon Cline (Ventura High) pulled CLU within 21-7 with 3:29 left in the third quarter. He also hit Jajuan Thomas with a 3-yard pass with 6:38 to play.

Kellstrom had a pair of 1-yard TD runs in the fourth quarter to put the game away.

Linebacker Jalani Blade had a game-high nine tackles and defensive linemen Justice Forbes, Jackson White and Shaihi Baker combined for three sacks to lead the CLU defense.

The Kingsmen visit Claremont-Mudd-Scripps this Saturday afternoon.
