Buddy Hield breaks Pacers' 3-point record

INDIANAPOLIS -- Pacers veteran wing Buddy Hield broke Reggie Miller's single-season franchise record for 3-pointers on Wednesday night when he hit his 230th 3-pointer of the season.

Hield has hit 6 of 10 3-pointers with five of them coming in a 19-point third quarter.

Hield leads the NBA in 3-pointers and will participate in the NBA All-Star Game 3-point contest on Saturday night in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Hield is now one of two players to hold the season 3-pointers record for two teams as his 282 in 2020-21 are the most by a player for Sacramento. J.J. Redick holds the mark for Philadelphia (240, 2018-19) and the Clippers (201, 2016-17).

Miller set the record in the 1996-97 season when he played 81 games. Hield has played in all 60 of the Pacers games this season and still has 22 remaining to add to the record. He has made 42.6% of his attempts this season.

"It's a blessing," Hield said. "It's a new NBA man. We shoot 3s and we shoot 3s at a high level. One thing I can say is that I'm not just getting up 3s. I'm shooting them at a high clip. Passing a legend, a great, Reggie at Indiana shows a testament to my hard work, dedication to the game and my teammates, finding me in the right open spots. People say, 'Yeah, I can't do it without my teammates,' but my teammates find me a lot."

This is the fifth time Hield has hit at least 200 3-pointers. He's passed the 270 mark three times. The 30-year-old Hield already ranks 31st on the NBA's all-time 3-point shooting list with 1,647 3-pointers.

"Buddy is going to go down as a historically great 3-point shooter in this league," Pacers coach Rick Carlisle said. "Passing Reggie Miller for the single-season mark with 22 games to go is a strong statement."
